Can i copy my Steam ?

Hi guys.

Usually if i reformat ill cut my steam folder and leave it on my brothers computer till ready. Doing this i get no problems what so ever.

Because i live in two houses [ 1 with adsl soon ] Ill have a computer in each.
I wish to copy my Steam Folder and be able to access it from both systems.
I tried this, this morning and it worked but the games where faded out.
I asumed id need to reinstall or enter my CD key. Although reinstalled games would be silly as there the exact same Steam Folder :S

How do i find out the CD key i used to install HL and CS with for steam, i can find my CZ one but i have so many HL cd keys i just dont know. I remember a program called HLCD KEY CHANGER but it dosnt seem to pick up steam.

Has anyone else tried copying a steam folder completly, and used it from 2 locations ?

Am i being rediculous ?

You may find it easier to install steam on the second machine and then just copy over your config files and any custom models/skins that you have.
