I've just bought myself an Abit AX8 motherboard and an Athlon 64 3200+ 90mn CPU.

I'ce put it all together and pluggd everything in.

When I switch the computer on I get silence for a few second than a none stop beep beep noise.  A low pitch beep followed by a high pitch beep.  Nothing appears on the screen.

The diognostic readout on the board stops at 9.0.- Complete uGuru initial process, AWARD BIOS take over booting job.

I have absolutely no idea what's wrong :(

u sometimes get a constant beep if something isnt connected properly,

double check all connections and pins and that the RAM and CPU is in correctly then try again

If you have multiple sticks of memory try it with one stick. NB to make sure that the memory is properly seated (remove and reinsert if necessary)

Ok, it turns out the Abit Av8 board won;t work withnew Athlon 64 3200+ CPU's unless the board is flashed with the new 1.5 BIOS.  But guess what?  You can't flash the board unless the PC works!

does anyone know where I can buy a BIOS chip extraction tool from?

I would suggest that if you bought all the stuff from the same place then you are owed a bit of service. I would complain if I were you.

The board was from dabs and the CPU from overclockers.

I'm had to order a BIOS chip remover so I can post the chip to Abit UK to get it flashed.

bit out of order you dont get the most up to date bios, when the athlon 3200 has been round a while. :(

how about taking the cpu out your current working pc, put it in the motherboard in order to boot up and flash the bios, then switch back to the new Athlon64? A bit paintful, especially if you don't enjoy wrenching heatsinks and the like off and on cpus but should sovle your problem shouldn't it?

The PCU I usedto use was a socket A Barton XP-M 2500+, so isn't compatible with socket 939 motherboards.

I've ordered a new motherboard from cpucitystore.co.uk or whatever it's called.  They have boards in stock with the new 1.5 Bios.

On another note.  I was taking the parts to pieces last night and you won't believe what happened!

I pulled off the heatsink, and it ripped the CPU out with it.  The thermal paste has the CPU stuck to it so much, just pulled right out, abnd bent 3 pins at the same time!

Hoping to god it'll work now I've unbent the pins, otherwise I'll have nothing but a £140 keyriing :(
