Hippy

After looking through some of the Topics on source i have given up looking for what it is, where you put it and what it does.  <_<

Someone shed some light on this please, does it increase fps?

BB im looking in your direction, as i remember you saying something about it

something about typing "-heapsize_256"

Anonymous

Open the Steam "Play Games" Window

Find the game you want to alter (eg CS:Source)

"Right-Click" on it and select "Properties" from the popup menu

On the "Status" window that appears click the "Launch options" button

Add any required startup options to the dialog that appears then click OK to save your changes.

I have "-console -heapsize 256000" without the quotes in my options.

Don't forget to edit the config.cfg to have "cl_smooth 0" to give best framerates.

By changing the start options in this way then no matter how you start a game of CS:S the added parameters will be applied. If you add the switches to a desktop shortcut they will not be applied if you join a CS:S game from the server browser (for instance).

Edited twice because I can't spell :(

/me puts hand up. Sir, Sir, why would I want to do that Sir? Is that why you're such a hotshot Sir?

Hippy

It gives 256mb of my 512mb RAM to source, to do whatever it needs.

Sounded like a good idea seeing as the defualt is 64mb (i think)

Doorman

So........would giving it 512000 make it twice as lethal? How much RAM is required by HL2-Source? Or is it another of those self deluding tweaks that actually makes no difference? I mean that with the greatest respect to BB. Really.

Doorman

Apparently 64mb of ram is the minimum requirement. With 512mb, unless you run other stuff at the same time, there ought to be loads of ram from which HL2 will take what it needs nes pas?
