tried to join the dead men racing server and kept dropping connection, even though teamspeak seemed to be alright... any ideas (other that the linux traffic shaping router idea as posted in the exchange...)?

We were all gutted. Not what I would have liked as an introduction. I'm sorry, I don't have a clue as to why. I can only offer one crumb. What is the connection speed you set as you enter multiplayer? We have discovered that to set it lower than you're real speed. I.E. If you have ADSL set it to ISDN and don't ask me why. One or two people have had stuttering ingame and that's cured it. The server is set to lower spec as well.

Please try again though. Don't let it put you off.

good plan ... that is one thing I changed tonight (it was fine yesterday - even won a race after the rest of the minis crashed out :D) I shall put it back to ISDN...

I'll give it a try if it happens again, but I think I use a static IP (for my pc at least) unless it reset to dynamic again - for the record I bumped my "connection speed" back down to ISDN (rather than ADSL) and was able to race around on an empty server just fine... will try again after pub this evening ;)

Otherwise give that forum a search. It is quite good  8)

DHCP being the cause is not very likely, actually  <_<

I'll be home briefly before I hit the pub this evening so I'll give it a go then if there's time...

seemed to work okay - one thing i did notice - the dmr server has "isdn" as a rule ... might that have been kicking me eventually without any warning why?

and I obviously need some map packs!

Mmmm, the vagaries of internet play! I'll put it back to ASDL and see what happens.
