Came across this at the OldTANGO Web site. I know its for the old patch but presumably it'll work the same for the recent one.

Don't know whether it'll make any difference though. What dyou think ?

{{After you apply the 1.12 patch do this, some people experience lag, even though there pings are good. Its a corruption of you game files after patching.

It is your game, now the easy fix is to go to 2 folders:

My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\cache

In these folders there will be 1 or more folders, delete all these folders under cache. The folders will look like this:

{D7B71E2-0208-11-976E-8C00A1C2CB35}_2554_2

Now restart your game, you will optimize shaders again, and the lag should be gone.
just to clarify (if you care) the files you're deleting are the optimised textures on your hard drive, one folder for each gfx setting you have tried. Once you have found the gfx settings which work for you the other folders are redundant, taking up diskspace around the one folder you'll actually use.

So deleting all the folders gets rid of the redundant ones as well as the needed one (cos its tough to determine which one is the current one). On next game load the system will re-optimize creating just one folder of textures. MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU MUST NOW DEFRAG YOUR DRIVE because the apparent lag is in fact disk access faults due to a fragmented texture optimization folder.

DONT FORGET TO DEFRAG AFTER THE OPTIMIZATION}}
