Have a 9700pro + CoolerMaster Vortex Dream. Latest drivers.
Running on XP Corp.
Everything is upto date

Lately I've noticed what I can only describe as a 'Rain' appearance across the monitor(imagine your staring out of your window on a rainy day type thing) running vertically downwards to sometimes diagnal right to left - like rain on a windy day.

This appears both in Games and desktop. Is sporadic may appear right from boot or may appear later on or not at all which is why I've discounted a heat problem.

The minor plus point it does add a weather dimension to BF2.

Any suggestions

Have you got any electrical leads running close to the monitor data lead which could cause interference?
Is the lead damaged? Give the monitor cable a bit of a squeeze/flex along its length to make sure the picture doesn't degrade?
Do you have a DECT or mobile phone near the monitor that could be causing interference?

If none of the above solve the problem:

Pull the card out of its socket and reseat it - that'll clean the contacts in case it is a build up on the pins. Additionally it will also clean the connector pins on the cable from monitor to card.

Do you have another card you can try (that'll eliminate or confirm the card as the problem. otherwise it could be MB/Monitor or card :(

I got similar on my 9800pro once or twice, but that was definitely heat and/or clock-speed related and generally happened only during 3d rendering (e.g. games) You could try the Dans data check ... open the side of the case, point a big old desk-fan into it and see if the problem goes away - if it does then it's heat related ;)

like this?

attractive eh?

it won't be heat if it's like it at start-up though will it?
like BB said, it could be external...speaker too close maybe?
good luck :D

sheepy

Anythink magnetic could cause problems, speekers etc or anythink that uses a signal eg mobile phone, or it could be that something is bugggrd.

monitor perhaps? For some reason I remember something bad about sun microsystems, I cant remember what tho.

strange -

Even though I have the Rain effect on desktop I don't have it in BF2.

This definately is not a heat issue.

I've checked around for any items emitting an EM Pulse no phones nearby etc moved any cabling that could be causing issue as far away as poss.

Only thing left to do is reseat the card and re install drivers.....or Buy a new card like BB's

DuVeL

Did someone adjust the settings perhaps? Maybe worth trying to reset them first.

Or moving the computer indoors when it rains.... :narnar:  ;)

It's not a screen saver kicking in is it or one of those silly trick files? I remember there used to be a "rain" screensaver.

Nope nothin like that.

One thing I have noticed  - if I drop the refresh from 85 to 75 it goes away.
and a recap-I used to get it in BF2 but I'm not anymore.

I wonder if its a driver issue. I've already reinstalled driver pack inc catalyst control.
Any idea what the EDID in Monitor attributes tab is ? I've unticked and set to 85hz

Sorted

Its the kvm switch.

When the no2 pc is on it causes interference on no1 but not vice versa !!

Swapping the monitor plugs over reduces the interference to a minor drizzle.
