I've now taken backup of everything important on my old hard drive, so now I'm gonna turn of the laptop, change drives, install Windows again and get everything back where it belongs - ofc with WoW at highest priority ;)

So keep fingers crossed that nothing TANGOs up  :please:

It turns out that it won't happen that I get windows on my new disk...

I was darn shure that I had an SATA disk in my laptop, but when I opened it it turned out to be IDE
So for now I'll just have to go with things as they are (meaning WoW and everything still working like a charm, and that's a good think), and hope I can fix stuff at work so I can get anoter drive - and a correct one this time

There is some superb advice in the Hardware, Software, Peripherals, Case-modding, Overclocking section of these forums.  Why not ask there for some real short cuts to swapping hard drives, upgrading motherboards etc without have to hose the whole system and start again!

I know there are converters to be able to use SATA on ide lines and vice versa tho i'm not sure about performance hits.

if you really wanted to avoid re-installing, you could always ghost the old hdd to the new one (Norton Ghost I think).

I regularly do a full clean and reinstall, about once every 6 months, cos windows is like that fat 5LUT who lives in the house near the shops who just can't help stuffing her face with anything it sees.

Yah, there's converters from SATA to IDE and the other way, have 2 of 'em myself methinks.

Yes, there might be converters from SATA to IDE, but not for a laptop I think.  Can't imagine how I should make that fit inside than.

And about the resinstall: same as Umbra, does that regulary from time to time (minimum once a year), cause the need to clean things up will be there, and a full reinstall is the best way :)
