If you are really lazy and CBA to do the overclocking yourself, then you'll be interested to know that Overclockers have a pre-tested overclocked CPU on special offer at the moment.  They are hand-picked AMD Athlon "Thoroughbred" XP 1800+ JIUHB stepping CPUs that have been modified, pretested and are guaranteed to run stable at XP2600+ speeds (12.5 x 166MHz) using no more than 1.75volts. They are identified by the CPU code AXDA DUT3C X.

Enjoy!

Having only finally sorted my PC after one month of tweaking and swearing, and vowing never to open a PC case again in my life I think I'll pass on that one!

Benny, further to our conv earlier tonight, yes that mobo does support your 1400 cpu. But as we agreed, it would be better to save the cash and go for the 1700 JIUHB listed in the other thread if you are happy to up fsb and multipliers yourself, rather than spend more on this particular 1800 chip.  After all, they are using exactly the same stepping as the 1700......

Thanks mate, I'll hit the shops Tuesday morning and give my card a hammering.

You gotta make sure you get the correct stock code that TeaLeaf quotes as the chip is far better quality than a bog standard 1800+. So buying from cpucity is a good move (limited options exist).

Errr, generally yes you should be able to o/c this chip, BUT not by as much as the slower XP1700+ JIUHB discussed in the other thread.  At the end of the day, all of the Thoroughbred cpu's are based on the same core (either A or B).  AFAIAA a lot of the difference between the performance of say a 1700+ and a 3000+ is down to the quality of the silicon wafers used.   If you can get a cheap cpu made with premium quality silicon then you should have a load of o/c potential.  If you start with a faster speed CPU like yours then you will have less headroom so you won't get as much of a percentage increase.  How much of an o/c you eventually see will depend on the cpu itself.  The only way to find out more about the CPU is to take the heatsink off (and be prepared to re-seat with Artic Silver III afterwards etc) and make a note of the serial numbers printed on the cpu core.  You may be lucky and have a 'good' one, but you may have one that will never o/c as fast as the JIUHB 1700+.

The only way to know is to try it.  You need to mess around with the FSB and clock multiplers in bios to see what it can do.

Sheepy appears and begins to stroke my head. According to his slurred drunken speech I am "lovely and like a fuzzy felt". Thankfully he soon leaves and passes out somewhere. [/quote]
