I remember people talking about this a while back. Is the same thing likely to occur in CS : S? If so will it really be that much of an annoyance/distraction?

Whitey

You can already have adverts on CS:S, we make use of it to show the "No Entry" signs.

DuVeL

It's not really distracting but they said that through your internetbrowser they would see which kind of adds you would be interested in so adverts would vary per player.

I don't see it happening in CS-S as in BF2142 though. EA, is just a big mess...Steam aswell btw...

Saw in the Danish news yesterday that ads should go online now. That includes CS:S (the program showed CS:S).

Wonder what sort of info they would get if you set your internet browser to "work offline" before starting the game

kregoron

That data is prolly gathered over time, so even if you set IE offline while you play they already got the data :S sadly

From a privacy point of view surely they would have to ask for your permission before accessing cookies etc unless the cookie had been set by them (even then I think it is a bit wooly as to their rights to access YOUR data)

Luminance

seems fun at the one end, but alot more irritating on the other hand

Also known as Lycan Lumi - On Aszune known as: Luminescence lvl 80 shammy
Best knife, double kill:
-=[dMw]=-Lumi|T.Wolve killed -=[dMw]=-Sithy with knife.
-=[dMw]=-Lumi|T.Wolve killed -=[dMw]=-R@ng3R with knife.

Im 99% sure you say yes to them gathering data, when accepting the EULA..

Would be interesting to find out if that was covered by the "unfair terms" law?

kregoron

To be honest, im sure EA's armada of lawyers have it written so you cant do much, also google saves data on what people searches with their search engine, which they sell on, its been known for ages that they make loads of cash like that :)
