I insert this thread here, as I think we should try for a couple of days.

Insurgency fits our way of play since:
a. it's based on team play.
b. it's based on team play.
c. it's based on team play.

plus it will let all you ego-manicas be "commanders" :D and have this special scope which in the IDF is named EYAL (after me - lol)

Oh, and it's also hard, yet fun and good looking. Maybe a mixture between CSS and BF2?

I still did not get a full hang of it yet, but if a DMWer knows something about it, we could let Baldric run it, and then this special individual could teach us all.
"Even in a justified war, only one place there is for the dead; if someone loses - it\'s only you. Prime Ministers leave without a scratch - when everything ends they mourn the people; but I want to live on and mourn them"

I'll have a look at it this week and sort out a server if it looks OK :)

Downloaded it this evening, and really wasn't that impressed. Putting aside the political crap for the minute. Looks very similar to COD II, i.e. the game play. The way your character moves around, how he doesn't actually have a health bar, but a succession of bullets aimed in the right direction should kill him. There is no cross hair, the only way of aiming well is through your sights.

Graphics and layout of the map reminds me alot of BF2, perhaps when playing with people you know and with strict rules enforced you could get a lot more out of it, in a "team-work" manner. However when playing just now it was just like playing COD II. Skill wise, I thought the aim + shoot system would be similar to that of CS, (which involves some skill). However this just seems to be another "spray and pray" type game.

First thing I noticed on the options page amongst the "sprays" you could have. "PRO Zarqawi">>>> are you kidding?! I'm sorry, but what the hell?! Does anybody realize what this guy was responsible for doing? TBH its also kinda weird playing a game that is based on events currently going on. Events that really shouldn't be glorified, especially through this game.

I believe the game also refers to a mosque as a breeding ground for insurgents, and some other comments are made through it. Im not just taking one side on this, but seriously, come on. But "to - his - his -own", I guess.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I take back the "to-his-his-own" comment. Anybody with morals and values won't play this game. This is pretty sick.

Crikey! There's that much in it is there? I never realised. I thought it was just another fps. Interesting enough but not something I could see being taken up in any serious way. A bit like the various mods for BF2
Mind you, we have to be careful about being too PC. After all, mosques are used to preach all kinds of bad poo. But you're right, games shouldn't be made from this kinda stuff. They'll be doing a game about escaping from the twin towers next. :sideways:

This'll get me into trouble.

Oh by the way, it's 'To each his own'

I suppose the time-setting of the game may be a bit too up to date, and may well upset some people.

the passage of time makes things a lot less immediate, after all, we don't mind playing as WWII german or Japanese troops.

CSS is a bit vague about the ethnicity of the Terrorists, but no-one can deny that terrorism of any kind is not a good thing, yet we don't mind immersing ourselves.

BF2 lets you be an insurgent(loads of mods) or a middle east/asian soldier, and some of these chaps were pretty nasty.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I haven't played it yet, so can't really comment on the actual mod, but it's an interesting point you raise.

maybe it's too soon to be using those real life scenarios?

I'm glad you agree with me.

But I'm not sure how you can say that mosques preach "radical Islam". First off, not all Muslims are terrorists, and it's not Mosques that teaches hate, destruction and the "death to all those" who oppose them. It's the ignorant bigoted fools inside them that do. Just like the radical Christian churches.

Islam stands for peace, compassion and kindness. However this is not interesting to read, therefore people much prefer to believe what the media cough up. And also I see how people can get this idea when you have these radical idiots all over the news holding banners exclaiming their ideas.

The radicals of this faith are but a minute percentage of those that actually believe in the true sence of this religion and what it truly means, even if thats not is what is seen on tv.

Lets not forget the Americans treatment of their own prisoners.

Where do we draw the line?

Sony got into hot water for using a model of Manchester Cathederal

Nobody really got massacred, the aliens are not in the choir stalls, so what were they so upset about?

I've played loads of games which have churches**, mosques, temples, religious sites....what's the big deal about Manchester Cathederal?

Sony were soo stoopid to apologise in my opinion.

**1 of the new maps on Meathook has one of the most beautiful renders of a church interior I've ever seen....an almost religious experience.

that's an interesting point you raised here, but if we all remember it's just a game...
even in Insurgency, when I played as an Iraqui (if you can call my stumbling "play"), you are after the goal - to dominate point Alpha or so, and the fact that you have Sadam Houssein pics on the walls is well evened by the posters of Schwarzenegr hanging around. (realy, Schwarzeneger)

I think its a great game, needs some time to get used to no cross and great recoil, but its still fun.

And the commander needs to be a good, well map knowing player, otherwise the team is dead.
