When I have time I try to practise using LFS Replay Analyser and comparing my hotlap times to WR laps or other fast laps. I know people are using this tool to help them making setups, but I'm more interested to find where I'm losing time.

LFS Replay Analyser 0.7:

I start by first driving a decent hotlap and then get a faster hotlap from LFS World.

WE1 with XRR, from LFS World hotlap ranks:
romus74   1:33.790

malcomax 1:31.460
http://www.lfsworld.net/get_spr.php?file=10164

Both of those laps in video:

Then I need to get hotlap data to be analysed, that's done by watching the replay and outputting the lap data. Then I launch the LFS Replay Analyser and open those two raf-files.

Open the attached image when reading this:
T1: I'm winning 0.1 sec compared to malcomax, I had better straight speed.
T2: Starting from the entry of the T2 until the entry of the T3 I lose 0.4 seconds.
T3: Watching his lap on the video I can see that his speed through the corner is ~220km/h but mine is only ~200km/h. Have to improve here.
T4: Again a fast corner where I am too slow
T5: Wide flat out turn, so I'm not losing here at all.
T6: I brake earlier and slow down too much.
T7: Though I'm slower through the turn my entry speed is good, since I'm not losing on the straight.
T8:Again braking early and I'm losing time from the T8 brake zone til the mid T9
T9-T12 entry: My exit speed from the T9 was good so that I'm not losing time here. His setup might have more downforce, since on long straights I seem to get higher top speeds, but through corners he is faster.

To get somewhere around 1:32:5 I must practise to carry more speed through T2-T7 and then improve my braking on T8. On T12 I'm also losing a lot and there I need to find a good line to be able to put throttle down early.

It's pretty obvious that you need to driver faster through corners to improve times, but still it's good to see where and how much you lose. Sometimes the picture is a bit different, I might find that there is one or two corners where I lose a lot and then other corners where it's less.

 great post!!

i too try to compare my hotlaps to the wr but without using the replay analyser.

normally i just watch the replay and try to make mental notes as to which gear, speed and revs they are using and try to match it up back on the track.

without doubt it helps but not by as much as i would like

will give the analyser a go and see if it helps , cheers bud:)
It is better to stay quiet and act the fool, than to say something and remove all doubt

Yep, I have used that tool sometimes, but not lately. It looks it has now numbered corners etc. Need to download the new version.

There is one thing though...if you have very different kind of setups, making too close comparisons doesn't work. Especially if you use mouse, the wheel (pedal) drivers can normally brake much later. Another thing is that they are mostly done with hotlap sets, not race sets. I do not make hotlap sets - I drive qualifyings with race sets too.
