Draw range on objects

I have found that people with low end PCs can sometimes make impossible shots on people that are hiding in the grass, i have noted that this is due to the draw range on grass and other "soft" objects that give low end PCs somewhat of a unfair advantage at spotting proning enemys at long range in grassy enviroments.

Not true actually. You first noticed the effect against me the other night. I have a Core 2 Duo 3GHz with 8Gb of PC1066 RAM and an 8800 GTX Overclocked version running 1600x1200 with everything turned to max. I dont consider my PC low end!

The fact I could see you in the grass is due to the game not the hardware!

If it was BB that shot you then chances are it was a fluke anyway :narnar:

Could be interesting to turn down your settings and reduce the distances you can see. I think it's possible, I vaguely recall seeing some view distance slider. Although you would have thought it would include all objects including players.

I noticed it on you cause you where shooting across the map, and then Squishy shot me at somewhat closer range a few times with killcam showing me totaly hidden. Was a case of connecting the dots. When asked Squishy plays from a laptop, thats not too high spec.

Sorry but thats unclear as to what you mean. To me it reads that Squishy shot you at close range and you were hidden?

Killcam showed me as hidden on my screen, but when asked he said i was out in the open, hence the draw range not being too consistent. Its not nearly as good for a low end pc.

It might be hes using a lower DirectX version. I don't really see what can be done if thats the case. But if its a wide spread problem I can see how it would spoil the game. Worth looking into :learn:

What about your lightsettings in CSS then?

Sounds a bit like HDR in CS:S. The people with high sped systems that have it on are blinded looking through the underpass for a short spell, whereas people that don't have it don't have a problem.
I'd search the web for optimum settings to see what people reccomend.

I have discovered that there are 2 entries in the config-mp file in your profile folder that control the amount of detail shown and can increase the range at which objects appear. The default settings are:

seta r_lodbiasrigid "0"
seta r_lodbiasskinned "0"

If you set them to

seta r_lodbiasrigid "-1000"
seta r_lodbiasskinned "-1000"

then objects will appear at the max disctance instead of "popping up" as you get closer to them. I have enabled it on my system and didnt notice any particular frame rate drop but it sure looks better :)
