There's only really one guy who thinks the world is going to end, and he's said the same about the Fermi lab accelerator. He filled a motion in America to stop a European project (crosses the French and Swiss boarder). I don't think he can be that smart if he's not sure where it is, or can't convice even a handful of the 10,000+ physisits who've worked at Cerne to call it off. Alot of my lecturers go there frequently (they're Physics professors..not sight seers) and they've never once said "I'm extremely looking forward to the LHC it can tell us alot about the early universe and we might even discover the Higgs Boson...but theres also a insanely high risk that we'll cause magnetic monopoles/miniature blackholes amongst other things and blow up the earth." ...well they might have said the first half, but I don't recall them saying the second half.
If something goes horribly wrong and the world is destroyed I will appologise in writing to anyone I have offended.

My Dad works at Cerne occasionally. I have been round most of their other particle accelerators on their tours and am looking forward to getting over there to see the new one.

In March, a complaint requesting an injunction against the LHC's switch-on was filed before the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii by seven plaintiffs.
 One of the plaintiffs had previously attempted to bring a similar injunction against the RHIC over safety concerns.

How exactly is filling a complaint in Hawaii going to stop stuff in europe one wonders???
