A while back I bought a refurbished mobo. After reading a lot about mobos, I settled for a very cheap Asus P5K Premium. That mobo was a pain and I am now looking for another, pref. not the same kind.

I now have a pretty good understanding of X38/48- and P35/45-based mobos. However, I was wondering how good the nVidia chipsets are? I am totally out of touch. If I want something fast, functional and reliable, what make and model? Or, at least, what nvidia chipset should I aim for? I am using:

Q6600 G0 (presently with box cooling),
Corsair Dominators 2x1GB DDR2,
Standard 550W PSU,
Asus 8800GT 512MB
2 x 120GB Hitachi DeathStars in SATA RAID,
SB X-fi Music

I would personally go for one of the Gigabyte boards (DS4 is excellent). The trouble is that they aren't cheap.

Is this a P45-version of that? :g:

No. If I remember corerctly the DS3 doesn't support RAID. The P45 DS3R does and the P45 DS4 does.

Yeah I just spent 30 mins trying to make that out. It uses Inte ICH10 which should be enough and some sites lists it as supporting RAID - but on their own site they say N/A, so... guess not. Cheers, now I know what to aim for (and I assume nVidia is not what I should aim for)

I have the GA-P35C-DS3R which is running a raid, but i had trouble with the MB in general as it was not Vista compatible (was after a bios flash done via XP :sideways:).

Personnelly i wouldn't recommend getting the one i have (cause of the hazel and that it only has 1 PCI Express), but one good thing it does have is that it supports both DDR2 and DDR3 which makes it fairly future proof and i would recommend you look for a MB with this if your planning on keeping it for a while (in the hope the price of DDR3 comes done)
 Bring on the randomness!
Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

There is ICH10 and ICH10R - guess what the R implies :)

Oh and BBB has a 965-DS4 and I have a P35-DQ6 - both are fine with Vista 64 (and I guess 32)

Cheers for feedback guys. I will get myself a gigabyte mobo if the deal with the shop turns out as I hope.
