There's many other regimes in the world where the people are stuck under despotic tyrants (large chunks of Africa for example?) which we just watch unfold. It strikes me that "the west"  and/or "united" nations needs to make up it's mind. Either it's pulling out and not interfering with other coutries or it needs to put serious weight behind each invasion or peace-keeping mission and interfere in a rather more heavy-handed manner.

These long drawn out, and rather half-hearted, military schemes rarely seem to work. The politics and propaganda get in the way after a short while and take over. By the time the people have freedom they're seriously ****ed of with those that initiated the freedom.

I have no idea what the "solution" is but I know this half-committed stance looks very likely to fail in that the "terrorists" show no signs of growing weaker over the years of sustained reactionary conflict and the general civilian population grow ever-more suspicious of the invaders/liberators/occupiers (delete as applicable).
