For some reason, now when I double click on a folder, it launces a search window rather than just opening it, so I need to change the default action. Any ideas?

windows explorer
tools
folder options
file types

scroll down a bit to find folder.

select it and click advanced.

Select "explore" and click "set default"

Oh and almost every single folder on my computer seems to have become read only?

That's normal, the folder is read only, content will have different attributes.

Have a look at the registry key in this link and see if your registry has been set to a different value by some nefarious piece of software from some cheap website you have been frequenting ;)

I shall investigate. I healed my registry recently, and it might have corrected wrongly if you get my meaning...
Nope still no good. Is there a way to check that the actual command for explore is still good?

Right, apparently, its an known issue when you're changing icons in wondows XP. So I ran a .reg file from HERE which was meant to clear it up. It hasn't. Any more ideas?

EDIT: Sort of fixed, erm, it now opens each time in a new window, little bit annoying. My problem is the same as this persons and I don't really understand it. can anyone help?
