We upgraded to 2.5M/250.
Does this mean I will be able to CSS while my wife cruises the web? (you tube, gossip, other female activities)

2.5Mb? Isn't high but good enough to game while someone else surfs.  If they start doing webcam and other intense stuff you might find gaming lags

Browsing the internet should be fine, just keep her away from downloading or youtube if you can help it.

But yes your theory is correct, a bigger connection lets you do more before it starts slowing down (or should)

I usually find that uploading whilst playing drags my connection down like crazy, it seems to cope better with downloading whilst playing for some reason.

What you could do is to have a software or hardware netlimiter that will give CSS packets priority when gaming i.e. dedicating a certain percentage to gaming/surfing etc depending on your setting.

Usually because the upload speed is limited to (say) 386Kb/s which of course is very different to the 2.5Mb/s download speed.  Gaming of course relies a lot on upload speed.

Or a dedicated router that can manage connections and limit each of them (each PC) to x Kb/s amount of download/upload speeds.
