Overheating laptop

Well I've fixed my lockup and DC problems I've been having over the last few weeks. I took my laptop apart today and dismantled the cooling system totally. All the little cooling fins at the end of all the heatpipes were blocked with a nice layer of dust!

All shiney new now after a few hours of cleaning and vaccuming :)

I've just finished re-assembling and it all works :yahoo: and my cpu temps are down from 70 celcius to 40 celcius :D

So, if you have a high performance gaming laptop, it's well worth giving the vents a good vaccume every month to prevent dust buildup!

Am with hal, Laptops, even gaming ones  are not as good as a proper desktop.

I know, but space is a premium in our shoebox UK houses.

A desktop may be something I spend out on in the new year :)

Hehe, well done Gandy :)
As a general rule is good to run monitoring software for temps, so any overheating issue can be observed early. And second thing, good vacuuming is always good, no matter in laptop or pc :) I do that about twice a month in my PC.

Do you have any cool pictures? [thread=26673]Here's what mine looked like[/thread] when I did the same thing half a year ago. Quite amazing the amount of dust there is room for inside a small laptop. Think I in total pulled out a small fist :blink:

nope, no pictures, sorry. It wasn't a lot, but enough to totally block the surface of each vent. Not enough to stop the airflow, but enough to restrict it which caused the overheating.

Well a desktop is going to produce about 10x that ammount I can tell you that ^^ Mine does at least, easily. I probably need to clean it once every month or 2 really but you know how these things go.. ^^
or Garrit, or Torgen. Also, Livestream.
