I have some problems with wow and i would like to ask the people here for some advice. maybe a few of you have an idea what can be done to solve it

After the raid last Thursday i loggen off and had no problems whatsoever.
The next friday when trying to log in i come to "logging into the server" and after some thinking from the computer his side it just goes back to the server selection screen.

After waiting a few days (until this morning) i decided that a clean reinstall was needed after trying the repair tool to no avail.
I installed all the CD's and when it comes to the patching part (it just gets stuck on tracker not responsing). I rechecked the firewall settings in windows and on my router and no problems there so far i can see.

I have 2 questions here:
Could someone advice me how the first issue could happen (not beeing able to select a server) and the second issue (the tracker is not responding).

Hmmm hate when these kind of things happen on first question i would have done the same u did, no clue why still no server (maybe try from another computer to see if problem is computer based)
Second question u can try to disable per-to-per in setting it helped on when i had to download, but i had to turn it off and on.
Hope you get it fixed mate sry for the late response but i had to do stuff before raid :(

Try to ping the blizzard server as well, cause it sounds like your PC and Blizz aren't communicating properly (if you can still get into the game but not beyond any online stuff, same with patch d/l). Since you seem to be able to use the net just fine besides WoW-stuff...
or Garrit, or Torgen. Also, Livestream.

For some reason the problem reseolved itself. No idea why, but it all are working again. Thanks for the advice limpsy and azu.

Small Update.

The issue has not resolved itself. More people seem to have the problem, but on the blizz tech forums no solution can be found.

I submitted one of those technical help requst forms and i hope i have more luck with that. I tried a tracer and i come to the telia server which should be the wow server.

What you describes above looks like communication client-server problem, most probably due to a DNS (Domain Name Server) change from Blizzard that is not correctly replicated in the ISP's yet.

Try to open a command window and execute a "ipconfig/flushdns" (assuming you are running on windows, for MACOSX you open a terminal and type "lookupd -flushcache")

If the problem persist, go to your name server configuration in your OS and change the IP's for primary and secondary name servers to some other DNS provider as your ISP is not updted yet.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the tips, though sadly they did not work. I tried them a few days back and well, still stuck on succes.
Things i have done.

  • Run a tracer to the wow server (it looses connection at one of their servers (telia) but this might be because they are protected.
  • Did a iprelease then renewed it, after that flushed the dns.
  • Checked my router/modem settings and made sure the ports wow uses are open on my firewall
  • Did a clean install of wow
  • Checked the bliz tech forums, some people got the same problem at the same time but it seems random why this happens to those persons.
  • Tried all the advice listed in the wow forums by blizz themselfs.
  • Resetted the modem/router a few times.
  • Disabled the background downloader.
  • Disabled all programs not needed to run windows and tried again. (no luck)
As a last resort i can format the comp but rather not do that, takes quite a bit of time to get everything back into the right place. I hop the IT thingy send gives me some results though i doubt it for some reason.

Tried the different DNS servers yet?  If the problem is at your ISP's DNS servers then having flushed and asked for the DNS again it might have returned the same incorrect data?

I tried switching the 2 DNS adresses i know off for my provider. This did not work (which would seem logical, but hey it was worth giving it a shot.)
Looking for more DNS adresses i found some but not for my provides. Can i use those to test? I ask this because it seems very unlogical to me that this would be possible
My current provides is kpn planet adsl. If needed i can post some other specs if wanted. I would love to get wow back into action since the blizz tech ppl seems overworked or they are still trying to find a solution.

EDIT: tried to change the 2 DNS adresses i had (long shot but need to try something) to no avail
Edit: rewrited the post.

DNS stands for Domain Name Server. The way it works a DNS is translating a IP address into a domain name. So you can use absolutely any DNS IP address that you want, it doens't have to be your provider one, you can use the ones from yahoo, google, amazon or whichever you find.

Usually, any webserver will have DNS configured, so as long as you find a DNS that is more updated than the one that your provider is using should be fine.

But tell you what, DNS names take 2 days to spread around the entire planet, so if you keep having issues with your current connectivity, it might then not be related to DNS (as after 2 days the name servers of your provider should normally had been updated). But you can still give it a try if you aren't sure.

Thanks for the small explanation. I tried some different DNS adresses. but sadly it did not work. I might call my provider tomorrow to see if they kow a solution to this, because it is getting on my nerves now.

i hope you get it sorted mate, but i really think you should try log in from a different internet connection and on different computer, and try you own computer on a different connection this way you will find out if it is you computer or internet. also try hook up another computer to you own connection to see if the problem is there. I work with narrow down problem and in the end to find a solution, and if no one can explain it this is the way to narrow down the problem not saying it is a solution but it will give you a sort of explanation.
Hope it help, gotta hate shi.t like this

lunares

I have been working on narrowing down the problem. Someone else where wow actually works, i can login on my account and it works. But when i compare his computer settings reagrding the network, we have the same settings, also the other settings checked work.
If it is the modem router i do not know what is wrong. opened all ports, even disabled the firewall and as a last resort i resetted all settings. Still no dice.
Not much people seem to have this problem, but on the tech forums there are quite a few mentions of this from different countries, with different providers. So tbh i am lost what to try next.
