HTC Supersonic on sprint is called Evo 4G

The phone features HDMI out (though you'll need an adapter for turning  it into a TV-familiar HDMI plug), 802.11b/g WiFi, and an 8GB microSD  card. There's that still-rare Android 2.1 underneath an updated version  of HTC's Sense UI.

But... despite all these wild features, what actually sets the  EVO 4G apart is the fact that it's Sprint's first 4G phone. The handset  runs a combo of EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX, with calls still being made over  CDMA and the EV-DO / WiMAX options for data. Interestingly, it sounds  like concurrent data and voice use might be possible for the first time  on CDMA carrier in this way (killing AT&T's well-advertised  differentiator), though Sprint says that's still in the testing phase.

Interesting phone for CDMA-networks... lots of HD2 in there... I guess a mixture of this and Desire would be extra sweet

UK is all GSM. However I wonder if the speeds claimed by 4G are as fictitious as those claimed by 3G. A recent and damning article in PC Pro  printed a study into UK 3G speeds and discovered that average speeds were less than 1 Mbit/s; and in London which supposedly has HSDPA, 3G struggles to get beyond 2 Mbit/s. Not very good when it's supposed to hit 7 Mbit/s.

It would be nice to know what the genuine speeds will be from a 4G network?

I'm also not sure about watching video on such a small screen. Movie trailers and short You-Tube vids are fine. But I recently tried watching a 30 minute iPlayer program on my Hero. It was not a sweet experience on such a small screen.

I also read that someone in Russia's got winmo 7 running on the HD2.

As much as I love the app store on my iphone I don't think I will be sending them any money for a new one this year. Need something with a better screen, sound and camera, and so far this phones top of the list.

This cannot be pleasing Apple much either. It's amazing how last years must have phone is now just one of a selection of worthy contenders for our business. Bad for Apple but good for us.

I must admit that I don't think US buyers are going to be that fussed about data speeds. They bought the iPhone by the truck load when it didn't even have 3G built in. So raw speed probably won't make a big buying decision?

The specs look like it's a Desire clone. If so it looks very nice. I don't hold out much hope of seeing 4G in the UK for a while though?
