My headphones have had it. I need.....

Headphones with the mic on the right hand side. (I only ever play with one ear on so I can pretend to listen to the nagging in the background, and it's my left ear that I fake attention with so the mic has to come from the right ear)

I also need a webcam and here's the crossover. The one who nags wants speakers and a mic so she doesn't have to wear the headset. So....

I need a webcam, speakers, mic and a headset with a mic, that I can switch between with no effort and no unplugging. Oh, and cheap.

Headset I'm tempted by is the Steelseries 3H which has decent reviews. (even though the mic is on the left). Webcam I couldn't care less about so any old tat.

That bit is a bugger.  Would be interested to know other people's solution to it.  I have my eye on a nice set of speakers, but cba to unplug all the time form the headset.

usb headset & normal plug in jobbie speakers? thats how I'm running at the mo, only 1 drawback of it is I have to change which device the sound comes from as both don't work at the same time, it's a bit weird but you get used to it after a while.

And that's the bit that's the pain in the arse.  I never found a solution and eventually I gave her the speakers for her own PC and kept my headphones.

ive got both speakers and headset plugged into the same minijack output on the soundcard with a mini jack splitter

I use this

and just turn off either the speakers or the headphones depending on which I want to use.

That's pretty much how I used to run when I had my old medusa 5.1 headset & speakers running, I figured usb headset would be a real simple solution, but oh no, not that simple, windows can't figure out that I might want both of em to work & not just one at a time.

Tutonic

USB = suck

Splitter's way better.

Logitech webcams are pretty good Benny, I buy 'em for people at work and don't hear any complaints.

as tutonic said, logitechs are pretty good, great driver support..

and stay clear of creatives cams, they driver support for cams is even worse then their soundcards...

I use a Microsoft / skype headset which is USB, and I use speakers too (i use to have to unplug stuff before, which got really annoying), the mic is really good quality with 0 feedback (I sit quite close the the speakers), where as the headphones arn't as they are only good for voice, but i don't really use them anyway.

Don't buy USB speakers though, I tried some top end 2.1 logitec's and was very disapointed with them (there is a thread in this section on them).
