I got it as a very late birthday present off my brother. I haven't played it yet. I played the first one but apparently it's very different.

yeah they are very different.

your not building bases and training troops, but limited to a small tactical squad. I kinda like it for a change, no more creating massive armies.

I believe that DoWII and Chaos Rising are compatible, you can play against expansion folks even if you haven't bought it.
