Admins (inc Stealth ones if they want)

Logik sent me this pm he wants to set up what I reckon is a hardcore team.  I think it is one direction to go, but the way he wants to set it out as he states is very limiting to the community.    It would have to be not on a official night, but my worry would be we would lose the experienced players and they might only play this.  And we would lose those skills for the new people to learn from.

Anyway have a read and post your thoughts back  and please keep this admin style :)

QuoteHi Tobi, would it be possible to get a group together on a given night {to be decided} focusing on CQB and teamwork,it would be a small outfit to start with with tough rules, and selection would be based on previous performance, probably not very new player friendly really. Of course usual DMW basics will be stuck to with revives etc but the focus would be on teamwork, tactics and techniques. I would think a post explaining what this sub group would be up to would suffice followed by acceptance and invites, let me know what you think bud, cheers Logik.

I don't have a problem if MrLogic wants to run a 'theme' night, where he leads a specific mission/game type.

But I strongly disagree with making it invite only. It can only split the community and cause conflict.

For example what if a player, who is a subscribing member and thus helping to pay for the server, is told he/she is not allowed to play with the 'Elite CQC' group on any given night? I'd be pretty feckin cross if that were me.

Your other point about players learning is also a good one. Players can only get 'better' by playing alongside experienced guys and learning from their example. Splitting the group just means that guys who don't play to a high standard will never be given the opportunity to improve.

To summarise: it's a crap idea, bin it.

Why sir, allow me to retort.

QuoteOf course usual DMW basics will be stuck to with revives etc but the focus would be on teamwork, tactics and techniques.

And this differs because? Add to that he's not a supporting member. Let me slip my community admin hat on and phrase this nicely;

"Whilst we are happy to provide our supporting members with all the facility we can to enjoy all of our games, we have learnt by experience that creating 'elite' teams leads to a splintered and multi-leveled experience across the board. Whilst standards may slip at times it is every community members responsibility to reinforce thoses standards. I say this as what is being described doesn't fundamentally differ from our standard gaming ethos. 'teamwork, tactics and techniques' with the addition of fun. People who join us want all of that. If they aren't getting it we need to focus on that, not creating a splinter cell"

good fit that hat innit.

I like Benny's reply, the current focus is on bringing more people in and making it fun, whilst tactical and team based, not splitting the players we have.

The squabbling that will ensue with the formation of an invitation based game will possibly push away the recruits just starting to buy or revisit the game and alienate the long standing players who may not be invited.

I, for one, play for fun.

Oh yeah, Tut's reply is okay too.

Thanks guys I have replied,

Thanks for you PM, I have thought about it and discussed with the admins to get their view as it will effect the whole player base.

I have no problems with you wanting to lead a CQB mission, I and the admins will be more than happy to help out with this.

I do have problems with setting up a "elite" squad when goals of that squad is not unlike the standards we try and promote.  Also but I feel that it will split the player base, as those with experience as you point out would be called apon while the new players are left out.  Without the experienced players there to help teach the new guys and the chance to learn from them, this would stagnate our player base.  The game is tough enough for new players, but with no help from someone who has been through it, some people will be frustrated, not try and miss out on all the fun we have.

As for only letting the members of the this squad play on a certain night on a server alone.  I cannot support this,  we have Supporting Member whos donations have paid for our servers and to tell them that they cannot use our servers is not something I am willing to do.  I would be most unimpressed if I wasn't allowed to play on a server I was paying towards to be honest.

I am looking to make this game for our community open to all and fun to play while keeping the dMw standards, it is true sometimes we may miss these standards but it is up to us to make sure we stay on top of them and work at keeping them.

I hope that goes to explaining why I cant and wont set this up.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this, but I certainly think we could advertise a 'serious night' where we run a map in the way Logik wants. However I agree the best we can do is politely ask prospective players to observe the play style and join in with the spirit of the session, we shouldn't lock anyone out.

If Logik wants to run one of these 'hardcore' sessions I would certainly be keen to join in.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.
