Sunday night is public night as we all discovered so well last night :D I've noticed we've seen a one or two new guys who first appeared on public night sign up to the forum and start playing Tuesdays as well. So I'm not suggesting we ditch the public night. However last night was an example of how it can be quite frustrating to play public. I think we're all aware of the main issues, not following orders, jumping in every tank, helicopter and jet on the map and disappearing off over the horizon.

I also noticed there was almost zero reviving from non dMw'ers. Probably this is due to them assuming that when a player dies they will either resurrect or restart. This meant that many of us were spending too much their time dead and waiting for a resurrect that was never going to happen. Also as everyone was leaping in and out of vehicles it was near impossible to know who was in your tank and what they were doing. I spent quite a while thinking I was gunning for Tutonic when in fact it was a complete stranger who was driving. Finally I don't envy Toby one bit trying to lead an assault under these conditions.

So I'm wondering if on Sunday we change the rules a little.
First maybe we pick maps that don't require serious team work so a smaller core group of dMw players using TS can still work effectively as a team while the masses run about and do their own thing?

Maybe we can relax the no respawn rule. On a night like last night a downed player checks if they're near other dMw players. If not and they believe they have little chance of a revive they can respawn rather than sit about doing nothing for ten minutes.

Finally could someone enlighten me as to how we work out who is in a tank with us. Do we have to drop to the map, zoom in and try to see whose name appears next to ours or am I missing an easier method?

Finally, finally is there any mileage in using the in game comms on Sundays in preference to TS? I was told it's buggy and the sound quality wasn't as good. Is this true? Is in games comms usable at all? I think that if everyone on the map could at least hear what everyone else was saying it might bring a little order to the chaos?

When i played Arma the in game squad comms were fine i could hear the people in my squad talking on the mircophone fine

I know Toby uses game comms now and then when he needs to say something important to public players and to be honest it sounds OK. I'm not suggesting we drop TS but that on Sundays when the server gets more than one or two public players we consider temporarily moving to game comms?

The voice comms in game is ok but not that great and I only use it trying to heard the cats on public night. The main issue as you pointed out is the mission choice I completely fecked up and choose domination.  Wont be doing that again!!!   Need to look into getting some more maps we can play around with.

So sorry it was hell in and bag last night will try and get a tighter grip asap!

Would in game comms not be more inclusive? Chatting directly to players might encourage more of them to join the community?

You are reckonning that they listen, many times I have used in games coms to ask people not to do stuff and some do some dont.  But I think it is down to the correct use of missions.  Also some people dont have the in game coms set up so even if I am using it they might not hear me.

We have to just keep at it.

No you're wrong, wrong, wrong. Hmmmmm on reflection you're actually right.

Seriously fair point. I was looking for a way to get public players more involved in our tactics and team based play. I wonder how many people come to the server and never realise there's a cunning plan that absolutely cannot fail being played out without their knowledge.

I've been an advocate of using in-game comms for a while now, especially the use of channels to seperate voice traffic (eg using the vehicle channel to communicate with your gunner/driver).

Unfortunately, most people seem to completely ignore the in-game comms and just use TS.

Can we, as an experiment, mute the TS channel next Sunday in an effort to force people to move across?

I dont mind giving it a shot.  I will set up a post and stuff so we can make sure people are using it. :)

Logik

A lot of clans run arma 2 comms in many different ways, the most effective i have used/seen is extra tspk channel used for support, this  is especially apparent in insurgency which lends itself to complication with the squads not seeing the other squads position on map. To counter the issues a channel for support is set up for team leaders [so they can tab in and out when needed] and the support teams [mortar and sniper teams] this stops the mortar and sniper fire being wasted when they get clear signals on the squads chosen routes objectives and no soldier chit chat/laughter/useless banter.
Im sure we have discussed splitting the comms before in this forum, on a tuesday 3 weapons caches per 3 hour session should be an achievable objective once comms is sorted?

BrotherTobious

It is Bank Holiday weekend so not sure how much attendance we will get tonight, I wont be making due to other commitments, I would like to try out the Tuts idea on just using in game coms, so if we have people tonight please make sure your in game coms are working and clear.  We will only be using in games coms, be on TS3 but dont use it once in game.

If it doesn't happen tonight we will try this on Tuesday.
