Luminance

I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand Canon EOS 7D and I came across a site that brings together buyers and sellers related to photography.
Now I responded to a deal for about 900 euros (which is a bargain, but not that much of a bargain that it is fishy), however after I send an email to the guy, wondering why he was selling it, and if we could meet up to do a few photo's before buying it, he send a mail part of wich is in the quote below. Now his name apparantly is Thomas Green, but I'm spotting several gramatical errors and even missing words in a few sentences. Now this got me a bit on edge. (If it was a Dutch name or so, then it might be quite possible, but a Thomas Green, moving to London to open a dentist office, should in my eyes be able to produce a better written text then myself).

QuoteHere is my deal method:
A.First you have to send me your shipping information (your name and address).
1.After I have received your shipping info, I'll go to a DPD Location and I will leave the product onto your name and address as the intended receiver.
B.DPD will check it to see that the unit was placed with all the papers and to see that is legal.
2.You will receive a notification from DPD as a confirmation that the product is in their custody and also, that the product has been tested.
C.DPD verify the transfer of money, and if everything is in order, will deliver the product to your door.
PLEASE READ:Very important!
- I will receive payment details after you check the product and you will agree to keep.
- The payment details will remain with the company until you confirm that everything is Ok and you want to keep it.
If you want to close this deal today please tell me your name and address and i will start the shipping!
So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the product before you decide to buy them. This way we are both protected: i will know that i have a serious buyer who has the money to pay me and you will be able to see and inspect the product before buying them.
D.If by any reason, you will not be satisfied with the product, you will return the product to DPD with no expenses.
I apologize if it seems like I'm pushing on this deal but I really want to be sure that everything is clarified before any further steps.

Has anyone send or received something via this company? And also via such a construction?
Becaus I was under the impression that DPD was a company like UPS, but now someone proposed this, which seems legit.
Unless I get a fake email and give my creditcard details etc...

Any thoughts?

Penfold

Personally I don't like the sound of it and as you rightly say, the English is abysmal.

If it were me I'd steer clear of it but who knows.

T-Bag

If he doesn't want you to see it in person, or collect it in person I would be suspicious. It makes it easier for a seller to have someone pick something up, no postage costs, no tracking etc. Plus you meet the person and can see if they're shifty and trying to rip you off. I wouldn't do the method outline in the email. If you pay by cash or bank transfer then he has the money....why go through DPD?

DrunkenZombiee

Seems dodgy to me. Personally I would give it a miss and spend an extra 100 Euros on getting it from a legit place new.
