Guys,

It has come to my attention that there have been quite a few incidents of rude and unacceptable language on the BF3 server over TeamSpeak.

While we promote a relaxed atmosphere at dMw, I would like to remind you of the member guidelines:

2. Language & Behavour
Members should maintain a mature level of conduct at all times. Be    helpful and respectful to others and please keep your language and    behaviour in the forums, voice comms servers and in-game at that same    level.  Play as though you are an example for other players and set a    good one. New members or visitors to our servers will often follow    examples set by veteran players, good OR bad.

Please do not use foul or offensive language on the server especially before the watershed (9pm) when there are dMw Juniors on the server.

Any further incidents will be dealt with swiftly. You have been warned.

Trying to keep it clean, but sometimes I slip up :(

Now I'm confused.  Im guilty of swearing after 9 as I understood the rules would allow for this, are we clamping down now? If so I will lead by example but perhaps OTHERS may need to do so as well. :eyebrow:

Game has more swearing in it then TS , and uses the woord that players against swearing react to ( F ). Can it be shut off in game ?

An interesting point. DICE are guilty of duplicity here, since they have a "profanity filter" on their servers for chat, but then put random (and fairly obscene) swearing in the game itself.

During the BETA I asked the question on BattleLog "Could this be turned off as an option on the server/game?" and got not reply from DICE, just more profanity from the angry teen XBOX crowd, who are still under the delusion that swearing is "grown up" and "macho" and anything with a "parental advisory" sticker MUST be cool.

We have always had a fairly consistent approach to swearing, words like n0** fu** and so was and should be tolerated, we are a mature community and thats why i myself joined dMw.. one thing is to go bananas IRL, and our relaxed approach on TS on game nights is fine, as its just here.. but ingame chat is a entirely different thing

Well considering the game has a age certificate of 16, players under that age really should'nt be playing and therfore the TS should be 16+ ;)

See my post about the watershed.

The alleged swearing took place while there were dMw Juniors on the server.

Disagree. The community set the standards not the game developers.

While we "relax" the rules on swearing late at night, we should always try to keep it to a minimum.

Thanks.

I agree to keeping a certain standard, at least before 9 UK time. Still, it's not a church meeting either.

And as posted further up, the language on TS on average is far milder than the random soundbytes that the game has the soldiers scream whenver a point is lost etc. Those guys drop F-bombs left and right. Everything has to be seen in the context of the game too. Allowing limitless bloody violence and those visceral knifing animations, and then clamping down on a few colorful dismayed expression sounds a bit american to me.
Additionally, I sort of agree with DA's sentiment. If I was a parent, the TS would be the least of my conserns about letting the youngsters play this game. I'm not a parent though, and those game ratings are only guidelines to help gaming-ignorant parents decide what's right for their children.

I rather deny my future kid to watch the news broadcasts (live war scenes and horrible natural disaster with bodies all around at 5pm) then deny them a game with no/limited noticable blood ;)
would be nice to clamp a little bit on TS though, half choked curses are funny enough, but long lectures of random words are just stupid (unless like for the Norwegians you can curse like the Nordlending on the epic mp3 "vaskemaskina" :D  (out on youtube with text))

Haha, yes those northeners are a kind of their own when it comes to swearing. What sounds like a rant to us, is considered a declaration of love to them.

If all else fails you could go with the geeky way. Bring back to life the good old Battlestar and Farscape swear words. For the advanced you could go to the Serenety/Firefly vocabulary.

I agree completely, but I can't say I've heard someone go full tilt on TS yet. Maybe I'm just on at the wrong time.
Sometimes the discussions get a bit out of hand, but most of it is veiled references that demand a bit of pre-knowledge to fully understand. For instance, if a 12-year-old understands the joke in one of the Larry games we discussed, about why one of the "ladies" Larry found would put on a condom, the battle is already lost. No amount of censorship will remove that vital bit of insight that makes it funny :p
