A good friend of mine is trying to have a business logo produced on headed paper etc. However it seems that he needs to provide the original artwork (on a disk). Sadly there is no original artwork, only some scribblings on a piece of paper.

So my question is - What software should I buy (or if it's freeware get) in order to produce said piece of artwork?

Photoshop etc are mindnumbingly expensive, so are there any alternatives I could try. I have used 'The Gimp' but it's way too fiddly to use.

Any advice on siftware choice would be appreciated.  :)

Well for company logos i reccomend using Illustrator (adobe)

Vector based makes it possibly to scale in any size without loss of detail in any way :D :D :D :D

I use Ulead PhotoImpact and have done for years - Free download of 30 day trial available here.

You can use vector objects within the proprietry file format (.ufo) and can then save that file to just about any image format you want (including Photoshop .psd)

Thanks I have a grab at the 30 day trial. Any professional designers could quote for the work if they wanted as I'll no doubt make a complete hash of it.
