Another sad story. First off it's another group of people who face a very uncertain future and thoughts go to them. However there's a common theme with the shops that close. They fall down a crack between expert local trader and large cheap online retailers. They didn't sell products very cheaply but neither were their staff highly trained in their product range or photography in general. I'm not sure what their long term plan was but I suspect they didn't have one. Maybe someone will buy them up and keep open the bigger stores, send their staff on comprehensive training courses and reposition themselves as a retailer for the keen amateur and pro markets?

I buy my expensive kit from a local specialist camera store (and pay a bit more for the expert service) and my consumables from Amazon. It's not like anyone can blame the VAT loophole enjoyed by Amazon and it's like. That was for goods priced under £15.00 and was abolished in April of 2012 anyway. I guess it's just more expensive to rent shops and pay staff to stand in them than to build a website and a big warehouse :sad:

yep I could never bring myself to buy something photographic without actually getting to have a go with it in the shop first. I'll happily buy laptops, smartphones, PC's, TV's and such like online but not a lens, flashgun, light or a camera body :blink:

Bit gutted at this news not only as you say its usually my first port of call for equipment, but also as friends and family have given me quite a few vouchers for jessops over past few months.  :/

16% saved at least. Another store that really needs to change if it wants to survive. If they stick with people who really know what they're doing and offer advice or short lessons to people it could encourage people back in. Make it more about the service than the goods since someone who already knows what they want is a sale lost to the internet.

Go to Jessops, look at the camera's, hold in the hand, have a practice in the shop, get advice fro salesperson. Go and buy from Amazon

Nikon D5200 plus kit lens - Jessops £649.99, Amazon direct £620.00, Amazon affiliate (97% approval rating) £608.00

I'm sure Peter Jones has a plan but I'm not sure what it is? regardless I with them luck.
