The Asus is not SSD (but you can upgrade to one with the additional cost and accompanying significant reduction in storage space) but has ultra-like resume time from sleep, it's pretty impressive tbh.

Good to know as we're not likely to want to spend any extra on an already-expensive laptop! Just waiting for some prices on the less easy to find models from scan, then I have to make a decision ... eek

Anyone used simplyasus before? Think it's the same as saveonlaptops, and possibly one other site (all have same interface and prices/stock)

EDIT: just noticed you wanted light gaming so ignore me :)

I've recently bought an Dell XPS13 Developer Edition latop (Preloaded with Ubuntu 12.04). It's for work, I'm loving it, the screen is gorgeous (am I allowed to say that about hardware?) :)

 i7-3537U
8GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory
256GB3 Solid State hard drive (Samsung 830 I think)
Intel® HD Graphics 4000
13.3in Full HD (1080p) True Life WLED Display with Skype-Certified 1.3MP Hi-Def Webcam

I managed to find free delivery and 10% voucher so it cost £970 in total.

Actually having thought about it gaming is not really required so Intel integrated would manage so probably a misleading requirement... ...also decided blu-ray and full HD screen is also just nice to have so long as it has decent video out for 2nd screen. Optical drive not necessary and 1366x768 res is okay. 970 is over budget though. Now that I've done some searching 800 is probably a good limit.

Updated requirements are more like...
Good CPU (ideally i7)
enough ram
windows 8
absolute max size 15.6"or it won't fit in swmbo's bag
Max budget around £800

edit1: had a quick peek at dell (useful for configuring...) and noticed this...
£600 for a Vostro 3560 with i7 3632QM, 8Gb ram, 128Gb ssd, Win8, 1080p, DVD-RW, and a 7670M (unfortunate that it's ati but similar rating to 635M)

edit2: and then saw this:
also £600 for Vostro 3460 same as above except 14" at 1366x768, 6Gb ram and
630M
