I was out walking the dogs in the fields near my home in Somerset when I spotted some huge paw-prints.

At least 4 inches wide and with a stride length of 5 ft.
I'm at a loss as to what made them, dog? big-cat?
Any ideas?

Looks like a big cat's footprint though.

Four toes and slight claw marks equals "No Mr. Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound!".
Big dog would be my guess, maybe a great dane, rottweiler etc. Otherwise you might have discovered a huge mutant otter?

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Yeah Great Dane me thinks, although if you didn't see anyone else that was walking it it is rather strange. Apparently there are some wild cats around but are rarely spotted

Bigfoot in Somerset? What will they think of next! ;)

Do you usually carry a tape measure while walking the dogs?
