For me personally I very rarely use social media.    The one I use more than anything is G+ simply as I find it less intrusive and easier to control sharing access.    I tend to avoid things like Twitter unless it is during a specific event: e.g. I might track some F1 Team Twitter feeds during a grand prix, but otherwise I'd not even load the app.    I also tend to have all notifications disabled by default - if the news is that important then Bernie will just have to phone me!

From the dMw side, social media is a bigger challenge.    People do use social media, it does have traffic, but putting content on social media also pulls content and participation away from the forum which has tended to be our lifeblood.    The ideal solution is where we could embed relevant social media within the forum and control both pull and push of content from/to our dMw social media accounts.   A social media presence would help dMw, but only if it is an integrated part of our community.   It's like our IRC channel, it works efficiently, but is not integrated within our website so its advertising value is lessened.   Is there forum software that does this for us?   Yes but at a cost and we have not found any yet that will handle what we do sufficiently well, within a reasonable budget and without excessive ongoing costs!    If someone in the community knows of some software that will work with vBulletin 4.x (or alternative packages) then please let us know!   Likewise if anyone has vB skinning skills then please get in touch!
