Peeps, the dMw Folding Team is on the verge of breaking into the top 150 teams in the world and this is where we start to meet some teams who still fold a fair amount (some a *huge* amount).  So to progress further at a decent pace we need you to think of people you know, or PCs you know, that could donate their spare CPU cycles to the cause.

If you know anyone (neighbours, friends in IT, whoever) who has a PC that is not folding for our team then *PLEASE* ask them if they mind their PC being used for the F@H project and specifically for our team, 33597.  It's a small download (500kb), won't affect what they do on the computer themselves and only needs occassional access to upload completed work units and download new work units.

It would be great if we could find a couple of businesses or twenty or so peeps to add to our folding total.  We are currently folding at a rate of about 12,000 points per week so let's see how far we can push it up to  eh?

Thanks! :thumbsup:

It's not hard, you only have to enter a name (yours) and the teamnumber: 33597. Then you're allready folding for dMw.

As long as you leave it up and running an old Athlon 500 can complete a large WU in around 10 days.

Usually the deadlines for the larger units can be over a month, so even the old doorstop systems are useful.

Borg! Borg! Borg for the cause!  :D

TeaLeaf

The work units and the points awarded are based on an 800MHz Pentium, so pretty much any computer shold be able to complete a WU within the deadline for that project.  You actually get points even if you miss the deadline, but it is nice to beat the deadline as your results will not get used for the science if you miss the deadline.

I may be mistaken, I was quoting from memory.  I'll check.

I should have my folding back by tomorrow. Only a single PC but it all counts I guess.

I have some people I could install it on, but they turn their PC's on for an hour or two a day and connect by dial up. Would it be worth adding them?

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

TeaLeaf

You're absolutely right :D

QuoteHow do you decide how much credit a work unit is worth?

How do you determine how many points a work unit is worth? Before putting out any new work unit, we benchmark it on a dedicated 500MHz Celeron machine (this machine does not have SSE/3DNow). We plug the results of this into the following formula:

points = 3.5 * multiplier * (daysPerWU)

where daysPerWU is -- no surprise -- the number of days it took to complete the unit.
