The list is of the EA games they are closing multiplayer, mainly due to that only about 1% is being used as new games come out, but also they are finding it hard to let us have LAN or community based soloutions.

That's one of the reasons why we generally dislike games that don't come out with a dedicated server, because in later years the game you paid before becomes worth nothing when they pull the plug.   Can you imagine that happening with say Counter-strike if the plug on HL had been pulled in this way?

Bottom line is, EA don't get any $money$ from you for old games, so they pull the rug.   The 'issues' they are experiencing are down to the fact that they coded it that way in the first place.

A lot of those games do already have dedicated server support. I think the problem is that they have been coded to use Gamespy's tracker servers to advertise their presence to the game itself.

If you know the IP address for a BF2 server for example you could probably still connect to it directly if the game allows you, but it's the end of the road for most casual players. Hopefully some enterprising modders can patch an alternative service in...

What's most alarming, is that some of those games are only 3 years old. That, frankly, is a disgrace.

Another reason to hate on EA tbh.
doesn't exactly inspire me to buy their products at all.

Couldn't agree more EA shows its all about the £ not the gamers.
