I just read through the post about privately funding a Javelin and donating it to the dMw Star Citizen Org.

I think it's important that anyone who participates in such a venture understand that anything donated to dMw is for the good of all.

The only thing I have a concern about is future disagreements or disputes. I personally think this approach should be discouraged as it will get out of control and turn people against each other.

It's a sensitive subject though because there are clearly individuals who are capable of injecting vast sums of expendable income into SC pledges and the guys who have spoken up in that thread are likely getting a buzz out of seeing a small group of people in a small Org investing so heavily, stopping this may put them off. It makes me as a gamer who doesn't mind spending a quid or 2 on my gaming experience uncomfortable seeing this sort of spending going on though. Also are there any legal issues to account for in this situation?

Nicely put and basically what concerns me. We just need some clarity about what pledging for a Javelin means if the ship then gets donated to the Organisation. I didn't think it unrealistic for pledgers to assume they may be in line for improved access and rights on the Javelin which, if my understanding of how the dMw functions as a pure meritocracy is right, they would not get. We don't sell privilege and status.

Personally I think the pledge thread is a stupid idea, vastly premature, fraught with dangers and not at all thought through. We're talking about real money not game currency and I think we need to be careful how the official dMw policy is expressed. I personally feel very uncomfortable about seeming to support a call to pledge real money. If Gorion wants to have a whip round then good luck to him, I just think we need to be clear that it's his unilateral idea and has nothing to do with the dMw Organisation.  There does seem to be an almost zealous desire amongst a few players to own everything RSI put up for sale, which is fine. But I do think it's clouding some peoples judgement.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

We've (hopefully) squashed the dMw side of that by now.    Gorion, whilst I am sure well-intentioned, had not asked us about this post and we as a Council do not wish to start fund raising the price of a small server to buy an org ship that as yet does not exist (even as vaporware) and for which we have no control mechanisms in place.  In all probability the destroyer does not fit our play style (we'll have too small a fleet to properly escort it) and it will take a vast amount of time before it would be fitted out sufficiently well to be usable in game (even assuming we had enough pilots to make up the fleet, which we do not).

Hopefully the flurry of responses has made that clear to all and I have send Gorion a PM explaining that we are not doing this as a dMw ship,  If people want to club together themselves then we can't stop them, but it is at their own risk.

I've also edited the thread and removed references to an 'org ship' and to me holding a ship in my account for the org.

Hopefully this is sufficient and I can now get on with breakfast.  Storm in a tea cup etc.

I was expecting the pooling together of resources would come from what was acquired in game. Kind of like I figured the way things worked for you guys in WOW.

I'm with you guys 100% on this.
