I just read THIS regarding aged spirits and I thought it was very interesting.

TBH I've always thought there was a degree or two of hype.

I think the basis for the article is at the very least heavily slanted, if not completed twisted.

If they wanted to do an aged versus unaged comparison then why not compare a totally unaged whisky with an aged one?  Comparing a 15 yr old whisky with a 23 yr old and then relying on the taste buds of just over person is akin to reaching your so called scientific conclusion by flipping a coin.

Would anyone here want to argue that claret does not change with age? Equally, we all know that you can overage a claret depending on the starting wine.  The type of barrel used also has a huge impact on the final taste.

Age of a whisky does have an impact, often a positive one (to a point), but not everyone can taste the difference and personal taste can often mean A is preferred over B irrespective of age.

Age is certainly not a guarantee of better quality, but it's a better guarantee than the quality of that article!

very well put TeaLeaf, now go get yourself a well earned glass of whisky :)

I use the same formula for whisky as for women. My age/2+6 :flirty: Though I find women tend to be more bitter after the age of 24 than whisky :narnar:

Go to a proper whiskey shop, taste some whiskey and let that steer your judgement.[/COLOR]
