Obsydian

Hi guys!

Just a quick note to let you all know that Tealeaf, OldBloke and myself got together this evening to have a stab at the Glaive Challenge, but instead it turned into a "How To Get Into A Game" Challenge! :)

We had some issues with the lobby, which is not all that uncommon at the moment, but eventually myself and Tealeaf managed to get a game going, and we made it to the giddy heights of Wave 8 before I dashed myself against a great big rock and TL lost his targeting system and was getting nowhere firing blind with only the one gun and only half his thrusters working, and so chose to take the honourable route out of the game...

All told, we had a good hour of playtime, and it felt good calling targets and working together.  With 4 it ought to be a bit easier as you can pair up and take the 'duul down quicker.

We did manage to get some things sorted though, such as a USER.CFG file that improves frame rates (at the slight loss of some quality) and we managed to get to grips with the basics of the controls, so it was all good.

Thanks TL and OB for an enjoyable evening - see you in the 'verse again soon!

As the scoreboard tells, my base F7C got truly hammered by Obsydian's Freelancer in the damage department - and the greater top speed of the Freelancer actually meant that he could keep up with those pesky Vanduul whereas I was often lagging behind trying to catch up!  Excuses aside, it was great fun and the time really did fly.   Thoroughly recommended and we should aim to do it again another night.

Major learning points from the night:

Config file to solve hangar problems - Obsydian linked a config file which made the hangar work smoothly (albeit with some things having been turned off).
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6OtV4waczZxd21ReHRKblRPM28/view
Place it in your 'F:\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Public' folder (change it to whichever drive letter your install is on)
.....keep in mind that the hangar is a placeholder and as such is unoptimized.

Flight control sensitivity - I had always assumed that this part of the config was not working properly because when I wanted to reduce sensitivity I reduced the default from 1.0 to say 0.8 and it never felt any better.  However Oldbloke told taught me that to reduce sensitivity you have to increase the sensitivity number, so I increased it from 1.0 to 2.0 and suddenly all the flight control on the joystick became much more manageable, smooth and controllable.

Man Logic - I struggled a little with ghosting/blurring on some of the HUD graphics with them being fine lines and quick movement on my trusty 30" Dell which is now 10 years old and has the response rate of my elderly parents.  Male logic then kicked in and I justified to myself that it would be a good plan to buy a new monitor now, to reduce the cost impact on next year when I plan to upgrade my SLI gfx cards anyway.  Luckily, Oldbloke was on hand to assure me that my man logic was absolutely correct and I should proceed with such a purchase.

I am so lucky that in my darkest hour, I had the support of friends during this attack of man logic. Thanks Oldie!

Sorry I wasn't there as I hoped. I got a little carried away killing Americans who we're at war with in Naval Action.

Can you explain where this is configured please? Is it under advanced controlls and the seciton where you can change the sensitvity of almost any axis?

If so I've been making this worse for myself as well currently at 0.1!:

Hehehe, the scoreboard was just a little fun (and maybe gives everyone a little target to aim for?), but the real advantage I had was simply being faster - the Avenger I was in (would love to have it be my Freelancer :P) goes 225 and has three guns vs the base Hornet which I think does maybe 200 and only has two guns.

There is also the fact that I've probably got a few more hours (ok, maybe minutes!) in the game than you, and experience is always a benefit (so get in there and have a practice round or two, people!)

The one thing that struck me the most was how the flight model seems to have changed. I see lots of crying and gnashing of teeth on the RSI forums about how the changes have out the game back and made dogfighting worse to the point where it's almost impossible to do, but, for me, it feels a lot better: smoother, more responsive, albeit with rather a lot of drift (watch out for those asteroids coming up from behind you!), and although the Time To Kill has increased (which adds to the fun in my opinion) the sense of actually dog fighting is much much better than ever before.

Yes, we'll be doing it again shortly. I have a few days away with the missus coming up, but I'll try and organise something for late next week - maybe the Thursday or Friday, if anyone's interested.

Definitely!

@Albert
I can't get into SC atm as it's downloading an update to version 1.1.6a, but from memory:
Control Options/Settings - then in the line below, scroll from keyboard/mouse across to joystick/HOTAS1, then scroll down the list until you reach some boxes which say iirc 'Edit Curve'.   I adjusted the 'curve' from 1.0 to 2.0 for Yaw and Pitch.

...and the updated answer:

Press Escape
Options
Controls Options
Click the chevron on the right to scroll from Mouse to Joystick/HOTAS1
Scroll down to from 'Edit Curve' and change them for ALL 'Flight' Pitch & Yaw items from 1.0 to 2.0.
