Are there any alternatives to tapatalk? Lighter-weight and open-source maybe? With each update the interface has to me felt more cluttered, slower and has more ads, unsolicited posts on its main page and spam-style "notifications" that do not seem to stop despite setting available preferences. It also seems to lose my forum details on a regular basis, doesn't navigate dmw forums properly, and the list of android permssions it wants for the next update is not a good sign.

Tapatalk is a bit of a mess. To it's credit it used to be so bad it was unusable but has improved. That being said it's still a pretty dreadful app and far from what it once was. I've looked around and there doesn't seem to be much else out there. I could see about setting up an RSS feed but that would obviously be a read only solution. Personally I just use the website as is on my mobile and tablet. VBulletin are far from being at the cutting edge of web technology :eyebrow: but the forum is reasonably mobile friendly. The text is very small unless you zoom in, which is probably killing out Google Pageranks, but I find it easy enough to use and is a better option that Tapatalk for me.

There is Forum Runner but it gets pretty poor reviews, and it's not free. We'd have to install a plugin to get it to work and I'm not sure it's worth the effort is it's no better than Tapatalk.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I've been using the phones browser too. Strange there's not more out there for this sort of thing really. I'd be very wary about another plugin with another pay-for app that has bad reviews :unsure:

Anyone have a link to the forum software (VBulletin?) api spec? :-)

..but I can't see much change on it since 2010, so I'm not sure that it's of any help!

Was looking for the version tag and just noticed that there's a drop-down at the bottom right of the page that includes a "default mobile style". Looks pretty reasonable, will try that before jumping into the api just yet ;-)

went looking for the version tag and just noticed that there was a drop-down on the bottom left of the page where you could select a "default mobile view". It's not perfect but I'll try that before jumping into the API :)

NB I already posted this but when I tried to edit it on the phone it managed to delete itself. I guess the lesson is to get it right the first time ;)

edit:
Had a very quick look, I think the api is disabled on our forum navigating to www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/api.php?api_m=api_init results in
{"response":{"errormessage":["api_disabled","API is disabled"]}}

I guess there may be security issues with the API if it's not been updated in a while?
