Have a watch and then have a go. Star Citizen is now an actual thing. Granted it's a very limited Alpha level buggy thing, but a thing none the less. Speaking with my good friend Chris Roberts over a pint a few weeks ago......

did we mention that Chris is now mine and TeaLeafs best buddy...... no?   :getmecoat:

Anyway Chris did mention that Star Citizen the multiplayer game would never have a big 'Now we're live' launch day. The game is growing as of now in small increments, adding new ships, new features, new locations etc. as it goes along. At some point it will quietly become persistent. Stuff you do and acquire will become yours to keep.

At the moment it can be frustrating. There are bugs and while this evening I happily played for several hours without a problem, it's also possible that you might get thrown out of the game or stuck in a wall within minutes of joining the server. Regardless though the game and more importantly the multiplayer game is effectively live. You can jump aboard yours or a friend's ship and go explore, fight and start the Star Citizen experience anytime you want.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I've now completed all the missions, spent a few hours trying to collect a vending machine but failed as for some reason it wouldn't go in the back of the Freelancer. (Kept hitting an invisible wall) I've spilt blood in the halls of the security station and tried to travel the system as a hobo.

Now I'm trying to define my rules of engagement. For me it's as follows:-

I will not fire upon anyone in a non-combative ship unless fired upon first, regardless of my present area. I will not fire upon anyone completing any of the missions regardless of ship or the positioning they take. Around the security area I will fire upon those taking an aggressive position or if I believe two military ships are working together. I will not fire upon anyone who is under repair.

Landing in the security, this is a tricky one. First if someone is trying to land on the security station then they are there for FPS. If they try to land while I'm circling in my SHornet, then they deserve to be shot down. This is a combat area and landing while being targeted by a fighter is stupid. If they ask my intentions then I will respond by allowing them to land. I will then find out there strength and determine if I wish to assault the station. (which isn't my strong point but I need the practice)

I will sometime blow up a ship already landed at the security station as it sometimes draws the crew to the widow near the ship. This allows me to sneak into the opposite end of the station.

I have on occasions shadowed a player (with a military ship) to test their nerve, sometimes they will try to fire in responce giving me an excuse to fire back. But this tends to be the closest I get to griefing.

So, am I being over/under aggressive or do you have your own rules of engagement.

I think you have it about right. My only thought is I might leave a player alone if they are landing at Security with the obvious intent of going FPS inside the station. If they are just flying about then they are potentially fair game. I'd make a distinction between FPS and in ship PvP, but I don't think there is a right or wrong way to behave around the Security Station.

I've followed you on the RSI website Kal-Nor so maybe we can hook up in game. I've teamed up with random players but am not sure how to actually find someone specific and get into their instance.

It's simple to do but you just need patience. Basically when you click on Port Olisar you will see that if a friend (need to follow) is on line a server will say '1 Contact', if you look left on that instance under 'contacts in instance' you will see a name of the person.

The server may say 16/16 but keep trying, sooner or later you will get in. This is where it gets frustrating but Ive been in and out with a friend three times during a aiming session.

The game is a lot of fun, for instance instead of clearing the Pirates at the arrays, my friend and I was doing flybys, with one of us dropping out to complete the mission. The hard part is getting back in while battle rages around you. We also do a rescue play through as my Connie lost power to engines, but kept moving at 140. My friend had to catchup, maintain speed next to me. I then jumped by which he estimated my location and recovered me in a cutlass. It not all about combat and you need to think things through in a group. Best setup is 4 players, either in 4 Fighters (1 or 2 needs to be SHornet or 300 series to pick up downed pilots) or 2 Wardens or 1 Retailiator. For me the Connie is a bit fragile and an easy target but that's personal opinion.

I did see you online but had no idea how to contact you! :-). I'll be on a fair bit tomorrow, maybe we can hook up.

Rogue keep an eye out for me on TS if you want to meet as well and hopefully by then I'll have sussed out meeting up with Kal-Nors advice.

The good thing about this game is that once you play around for a while you can tell when players move into an attack position. They either start to strafe to target your six or come at you head on with speed. What we need is a warning signal for missiles lock. If we had verbal comms like Elite:D I would open comms straight away and find out players intentions. Maybe even warn them to stay a set distance from my ship or they will be classed hostile. I can't do this in chat as I tend to type slow and I don't want to take my hands of the sticks. Maybe I should set up a auto responce with VA.

nothing worse then typing to someone to stay back and get attacked while typing or to type so fast that nothing makes sense like what i normally do. i imagine they will soon have a way to call other players and see what there intentions are, where they are friendly or a pirate. i think you should be able to see the pilot aswell so you can tell weather they look freindly or not.

I'm going to be on in an hour I think I'll try a few VA/Macro responses. Something like:

Message 1 "Please identify your intentions. Keep a distance of Xkm or I will classify you as a hostile and open fire"

Or

Message 2 - "Please identify your intentions. If you fail to respond I will classify you as hostile and open fire"
