Hello all, Rogue again but this time I am going to be talking about a new tabletop game that I have found. As the title says it called Gaslands, it is basically the film Death Race, or if you haven't seen that then think of mad max style vehicles. There are many different ways to play this game with plenty of different rules to add in to make it more awesome, things like sponsors and perks for your vehicles. It is played with templates and dice, very similar to Warhammer. Enough of me trying to find the words to explain this game so I have taken a bit from the main website and see how they explain the game:

Shoot, ram, skid and loot your way through the ruins of civilisation with Gaslands, a tabletop wargame of car-on-car destruction in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Players control small fleets of armed vehicles in battles for resources, dominance and survival.

With rules for multiple vehicle types (from motorbikes to big rigs), varied special weapons and accessories (including oil slicks, caltrops and nitro boosters), and a host of options for scenarios, environmental conditions, crew and campaigns, players can tailor games to match their visions for an anarchic future.

Now back to me, I have played two of these games so far and am quite hooked. There is plenty of talks about doing more of these games which I am looking forward to since it seems it is hard to have two games the same due to the number of vehicles, weapons, perks and game types. The first game I played was a Death race, I was given a car with two front-mounted machine guns and a buggy with a front ram and a front-mounted heavy machine gun. The other players there ( 3 others ) each had different cars to show me and another new person more about this game and the possibilities. My friend who got me into this tried to scare us by running a Monster truck with a side-mounted flamethrower. So you can imagine we avoided that ... for the first turn. A death race was simply a race where you have to hit all the 3 checkpoints to win in an 8 figure circuit. All your weapons are not active until you go through the first checkpoint so ... this mean ramming was the way to go and that's all we did straight away. by the second go, I had rammed the monster truck and span him out, immoblisded one of the cars so it was just my bugger for that round. This was a nice introduction game where I came second ... to me pretty much-committing suicide by accident.

The second game which I played yesterday was a straight-up Deathmatch, 3 players played in this and only one team left the arena. So I went for 3 cars with no guns on them only droppable weapons, an item that could throw my dropable weapons and some shotguns for my crew. Another went a truck built to ram and simply destroy cars, it also had a harpoon to pull you closer to it, he then had a nice little buggy with side-mounted heavy machines guns. My friend went for a bloody WAR RIG...yep so you know that thing from Mad Max which had the guitar player which was also a flamethrower... yeah he had that with the strongest gun in-game the BFG. This was fun to do simply go and kill the rest, now I will admit I was a coward and moved away from the middle of the fight but I did win, the turrets pretty much shredded up the big guys and all I had to do was finish off the war rig by driving headlong at it while shooting my shotgun, and the buggy I ended up ramming and killing. Both games have been a real laugh and so much fun.

This might be shown off at LAN but a VERY simple version of the game so that people can give it a go if they want to or just to see how it plays if people are interested in this game then please let me know :) Oh and look at some of the cars people have done online, they are simply awesome !! Thanks if you made it to the end of the post.

Thanks for the nice write up. I just checked their site and read the reviews and it looks nice.

What’s interesting as well is you use a toy vehicle. I’ll bring my motorcycle to the LAN and join in if you’re hosting a try out mate.
Cheers, Bert
