Went from a GF4/4200 to a 9800 pro without a hitch. uninstalled the dets and then bunged the raddy in and bunged on some cats. OMG, I'm a ubergeek  :(

latest nforce drivers, badly overclocked cpu on stock volts.

Enermax what? the 365 may come up light on power if you've got a bit of stuff in your case.

OK Here we go:

Epox 8RDA3+ nForce 2 mobo
512MB of OCZ PC3500 dual twinned DDR RAM
Athlon XP1700+ o/c to XP3000+
SB Audigy PCI card
2 x 120GB Western Digital Caviar 8MB cache 7200 rpm HDDs
Bastard Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro
Enermax 450Watt PSU, same as yours TeaLeaf
Same Heat Sink and Cooler as TeaLeaf as well
In fact same PC apart from the motherboard and grahpics card.

Should be no problems with power, it's a rock that PSU.
Cheers, Bert

OK, here is a long list of associated 'cures' that I have ofund from a detailed trawling of the internet.  Try them one at a time.  ATI appear to have a certain type of PCB layout that does cause problems on NForce2 and Epox in particular motherboards.  There are quite a lot of posts out there reporting similar problems with ATI Pro cards on Epox motherboards.  Remember when we originally discussed these Abit and Epox boards that was the only real difference?  Epox tends to have random incompatabilities. :(  Anyway, here's the list:

Start with the BIOS and drivers.  Please make sure you have the latest from here.

Make sure you have Fastwrite enabled in BIOS and check ATI's recommended BIOS settings here

Clear CMOS using the jumper (for me it sometimes takes 10 minutes for it to clear).  Boot, go straight into BIOS setup, go to Integrated Peripherals, disable 1394 support (aka FireWire).  Save and exit.

Set "Init Display First" to "AGP/onboard".

Try increasing the AGP voltage a little bit.

Set the AGP aperture size to 64MB

Try to disconnect some of the peripherals that draw power and see if it works with fewer components sucking juice from the PSU.

Try to RMA the Epox mobo.

:P  I just recovered my PC from a clean Ghost backup and my card is working fine. There must have been something silly lurking on my pc that was stopping the card from working but I am running 3DMARK2003 now and WOW it's immense.
Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I'll know how to fix any future problems, thats for sure.
Time to install CS again I suppose.  :D
