The game is currently moving over from the old HUD system which was pretty generic between all the ships to a new system that combines a HUD, helmet visor display, 3D projections and traditional screens. This will supposedly allow each ship to have it's own specific style of display and stop all ships looking generic from the pilots perspective. Right now the Cutlass (and some of the other ships) are part way between the two systems in that they have lost their old generic HUD but not yet had their own bespoke finished version. As one developer commented each ship should not only look unique from the outside but also from the pilots seat.

Making the Cutlass work in dog fights is like most ships down to weapons choice. Out of the box the Cutlass is a bit rubbish as it's designed to disable ships rather than kill them, so they can be pirated. This isn't much use in dogfighting, plus the turret doesn't work yet. It's worth messing about with weapon choices and getting something bespoke.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation - the joys of beta testing :)

There are some good loadout suggestions for the Cutlass on Reddit, but I might just park it up for now as it's hard to fly without a working UI.
