So what are people's plans for S4? I am finishing with nights / holiday soon so will be getting back to the game after a 1-2 week hiatus.

I am split between trying to reach Diamond (again), or playing more casually using heroes I enjoy more rather than ones I am good with (all Genji, all the time).

Curious to see what you regulars think, as its you lot I'd be keen to play with more with my shifts returning to normal soon :P

I'm also considering 2 accounts for both 'serious' play and 'casual'...

Pushing as high as i can (again) but this time from start with dva... she is still going to be widely used i think with her defence matrix still invaluable.

Aawww thanks ever so much chaos I know how much that must of hurt you saying that ;)

main

would love to group up for placement matches and also play something else then heal/tank all the time, just to mix it up sometimes

Chaosphere

Yes I'd love to group.  I will heal!!! #supportmain

Mugi

Wouldn't mind jumping in the odd group. Lucio skills getting up to par now, tend to have a low death count most matches anyway :D

Chaosphere

Sounds good.

As said in the WhatsApp, I will be online tomorrow from 9pm (after work!) to do some placements :)

Season 4 landed.

Milli and I did our placements in a 2 stack last night. We both felt we played pretty well throughout... and we ranked out at around the same SR as last season :D  (milli is quite unhappy with this!)

I'm working a second account up to lvl 25 in QP, will see where that lands after placements. I expect much the same, but it should give some answer to if the ranking system relies heavily on your previous seasons.

Is this still broken?

I finished my placement matches today, Won 7 Lost 3, got plenty of gold medals along the way and placed SILVER!!!!!!!!

:woot2: Now i remember why i stopped playing :woot2:

Chaosphere

Depends who you ask.

Placement matches... well they don't really do much. They just take your previous season rank and put you somewhere near that no matter how you do. I ended last season at something like 2800, had fairly even placements (5-5 or something like that) and ranked out about the same, 2700 or so.

If the ranking works after that is a harder question that I won't go into too much. My personal opinion is that it works for most people, but there are those that get stuck either too high or too low - but I think they are actually in the minority.

I think most end up around the SR they should be... the problem is we all think we should be higher. The difficulty is in seeing our own mistakes or own failings, its all too easy to blame it on everyone else and keep saying 'I should be higher'. Hitting your headshots and ending up with gold medals is not what really matters in Overwatch.. there is much more to the game than that.

Pretty much renders the placement matches useless.

I wasn't suggesting that the gold medals meant I'd played better than everyone else, or been a selfish player and just padded my stats with kills, as a former MMO player I know the value of every role in OW all too well :)

When I placed in season 2 I placed in gold and unfortunately dropped into silver after loosing a few games. Shame this season has placed me where I left season 2 leaves me not wanting to play comp again really. If I'd have done them placement games with an alt account I wonder where I'd have placed! That's the broken part!.

Chaosphere

Oh no man, I wasn't referring to you individually. Focusing on medals and thinking they are contributing more than they are is something loads of people do.

The thing that improved my overwatch was recording my games and asking myself what I was doing well, and what I could do better. It was more about what job I should be doing in the game, was I doing it or was I off doing my own thing etc.. did I get the actual value at the right times from my character or did I just get useless frags when the team fight was already over.. stuff like that.

I think the rank system works for most as I said. Placements I don't understand.. they seem entirely pointless.
