Everytime I try to start steam up, I get:

Steam has caused an error in STEAM.DLL
Steam will now close.

If you continue to experience problems,
try restarting your computer.

Any ideas on a fix for this? I've looked all over the steampowered.com forums ect.

I've restarted my computer about 40 times to no avial. Any help or info would be apperciated.

Go into your main steam directory

ie /program files/steam and there will be a file named ClientRegistry.blob delete it restart steam and all will be well...

Dr Sadako

Have you tried the "delete the ClientRegistry.blob" trick?

1. exit steam

2. delete  C:\Games\Steam\ClientRegistry.blob

3. restart steam. It will ask you to login

Tried that, still giving me the error.

In the same place is a file named steam.dll delete that then restart steam? Steam usually recovers from everything its just a virus  <_<

If it comes to it just have a clean wipe just uninstall it and install it again if you have a version that already has cs partialy installed it wont take long to update the rest of it.

As all you need to remember is your login name/password and your favourate servers as they get wiped its probaly easier than going through loads of forums looking for the solution.

You just have to take into account that steam likes to annoy you as it is its only reason for existance.

I'm still trying to figure out how I originally got the error.

I know I was playing on one of the CFor servers and after I died I hit ctrl to bring up spec menu, accidentally hit shift and it crashed.. ? so odd.

I did a full wipe, it's reinstalling CS now, takes about 20 some min on my connection.

If anyone needs to add me on steam for the friends list it's: fdapus7th@yahoo.com
