Ok, I've noticed alot of servers have /download off for the server.

And they say go to //www.whatevermapsite.com.

Now steams at it again, I can't figure out what directory to install the maps into. Of course it has to be one of 2 but, is it:

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\fdapus7th@yahoo.com\counter-strike\

or

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\fdapus7th@yahoo.com\counter-strike\cstrike

Any help would be welcome.

I did go to this link: http://www.forumplanet.com/counterstrike/t...986&tid=1272031

But it did not specify which directory.

Hi George,

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\fdapus7th@yahoo.com\counter-strike\cstrike

is the directory the CS files are installed to.

Any Wad files go into that directory.

Within cstrike your maps directory is where the map files go.

Sounds is where any .wav files go.

Any .spr files go in the sprites directory.

If a Map has been packed into a zip by a decent person, it will have a readme file and tell you where to extract the zip, normally automatically placing each file into the correct directory.

Most map zip files come with the file structure retained and should be directed to the cstrike folder.  Within the archive you will see the structure on the far right of the window like /maps etc.  That means if you point the extract to cstrike the file on that line will end up in the cstrike/maps folder.

Wad files go in the cstrike folder.
Bsp files in the maps folder.

But then I can't remember the last time I had to manually install a map.

easiets way is tp unzip it to a folder on your desktop then cut and paste it, a bit longer, but at least you know its all going in the right place :D

That's the same way I do it when I get a zipfile as download, works best. One luck for the new server settings for downloading the maps through the server, not from the server. Works like a charm!

Ok.. now I have 80 maps in my /cstrike directory along with the sound and sprites files, what a mess.  ;)

I got some fixin to do.

Oh what about *.tga files?

TeaLeaf

in your cstrike/gfx/env folder.

George, I real confused.  Why do you have loads or clearing up to do?  I cannot remember the last time I had to install a map where the download format was not zip and where the directory structure was not maintained when you unzipped the files?  Are you trying to copy them over manually from your 1.5 install or something?

If you areon broadband it is probably as quick to download the zips and install them from there........just check the file structure within the zip archive to see whether to unzip to cstrike or occassionally directly to the maps folder.  Zip will remember your previously used directories so it is simply a choice of selecting the correct directory from the drop down list - so you don;t even have to navigate down to that directory each time.

Personally I have a separate directory on my hard drive where I save all downloaded maps and archive them.  that way if I ever need to reinstall I have all the maps I need just sitting there waiting for me.
