Increase Partition Size?

OK, yes you *can*  increase a partition size from disk manager, *but* there is a catch.  Read on:

I started with a 30GB HDD in the server.  I bought a small HDD because I knew I wanted to buy SATA HDDs for the server shortly afterwards and then run a RAID 1 configuration.
I bought 2 x 80GB SATA HDDs and then tried to install RAID 1.
I then found out (deep in the ASUS manual) that in order to load the RAID drivers I had to have at least 1 non-SATA HDD still connected, this meant the RAID 1 was set up with my original 30GB HDD and a single 80GB SATA HDD.
When the RAID 1 was activated it partitioned my 80GB SATA HDD into a 30GB HDD to match the original HDD.
The 30GB HDD was then swapped for the second SATA HDD and this too was blatted down to a single 30GB by RAID.

I want to increase the size of the RAID 1 partitions on the HDDs to the original 80GB size as there available space is diminishing and at some future point will disappear altogether.
Disk Manager will not allow me to increase the size of the partition.
Technet and other sources seem to agree saying that you cannot increase the size of a boot partition via disk manager.

So how do you restore these neutered 30GB HDDs to their original 80GB state?

Anyone got any ideas?

I have a copy of that and stupidly assumed that being in a RAID 1 config would mean I could not use it

I'll go have a read, but I am assuming I should disconnect one drive and then resize the remaining, then reconnect the second drive - this should mean the resized disk should auto-partition the replaced drive under RAID 1?

in theory. however, make sure you have a watertight backup before making any changes

............and that's why i love these forums :D

Eventually got the "PC build from Hell" to work with the help of a "pc fairie" but it's too convaluted to go into...........

oh ok, if Sheepy can wear those shirts and Benny can wear that sleek red number then I can embarass myself as well ;)

....apparently I had both the CD-RW and DVD Rom set as master on the jumpers and this, in some way, contributed to the Windows not being able to load on the hdd (beats me as originally I only had the hdd and CD-RW connected when attempting to load Windows?)

Now that I know I need to keep the ata hard drive in to load SATA I won't spend another millemium trying to work out why that won't work either!! :taz:

and thanks for the link G-LoJ

okay, so off you go TL, make it work.......and don't forhet to post the result :D
