Counterstrike Blamed for German School Massacre! - Posted @ 03 May 2002 | 11:08 by Wizzo
Yes you read right. According to a news item over on BBC news website Counterstrike, the most popular multiplayer game on the Internet, is being blamed as causing the recent massacre in a German school in which 16 people died and many more were injured. There is talk of further legislation to regulate games in Germany, where there is already far more draconian laws than we are used to in the UK on game regulation. Some games have to be held behind the counter in Germany and cannot be advertised or otherwise marketed... you have to actually ask for the game by name.

Needless to say this has sparked quite an angry response from the gaming community. Quite strange that we get a little annoyed at our favourite passtime being blamed for some of the worst atrocities in the Western World, whenever a teenager goes wild with a gun.

so cs is now telling us to go mad and kill our friends and family!!!

Tutonic

A german player in my Firearms clan posted a scanned image of a german tabloid frontpage on our forums.

On the front the headline was something like "Games teach kids to kill" and underneath was a massive screenshot of a Soldier Of Fortune dismemberment with the caption "Counter-Strike is spreading through the youth".

Just goes to show what their tabloids are like eh :)
