QuoteFirefox Hacking

Ok, its no secret.. Firefox is my favorite browser.. infact, if you are not using it (for example using... Gasp, IE) you need to change. Well I decided to write an article on how to "hack" Firefox to make it even better. Using a few tweaks here and there, we can make FireFox considerably faster, enable advanced tab options, make newer versions compatible with older extentions, run directly from a flash disk, and on and on.
First, Lets change some hidden options to make it faster...
Open Firefox 1.0 and in the address bar type: about:config

1. Find browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs and double click on it so it = true
2. Find network.http.pipelining and double click on it so it = true
3. Find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests double click on it and change it from 4 to 100

What do these changes do?
1. Then enables advanced tab options in your Tools/Options page
2. This enables option #3.
3. This makes FF use 8 threads to each page.. Bascially, if you thought FF was fast before, try it after this.

Found this and thought it maybe usefull to the fox users out there. I take no responsibility if you use it and mess up your copy of Firefox.

I don't even _have_ that in my config
Got the last two, but not the first one  :(

Right, have finally decided to switch to Firefox. Is there any way of uninstalling Internet Explorer?  :)

You don't need to. Just let Firefox be your main browser when it prompts :)

if it doesn't just go to "Tools // Options // General // Default Browser" and tick the box :D

Yes but I like having as much free HD space as poss, as its not very big. Jus wonderin if there was a way of removin it, thas all.

Don't think so as it is "part of the OS" (Microsoft's quotes not mine ;))

Part of the OS, i.e. Another dubious Microsoft attempt to further their market gains. Tossers

Removing it was at the heart of Microsofts anti-trust lawsuit. They said it was technically impossible to remove IE from Windows, which was great until some computer expert went and uninstalled it.

So it can be done and there's a couple of three web pages that explain how it's done, although I have no clue where they are. IIRC though it breaks Windows Media Player (no bad thing) and Windows Update both manual and automatic. It may also bugger up some other stuff so I'd leave it alone personally.

You can make it disappear using "Set access and permission faults" in the add/remove section of the control panel but the files still remain on your HDD  :(

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I knew the champion of all things non-microsoft would be able to shed some light! Cheers, yeah think I'll leave it then!  :D

I think steam uses IE also for showing its fancy messages like game updates etc Well, at least it has an IE logo at the top of most messages : P
