Hexus slapped an SLI set up onto the new Asus A8N-E SLI motherboard and then went about trying to show where SLI can provide some improvements over running just a single card.  If you are interested in SLI as an upgrade path or just curious then the article is well worth the read.  It's in two parts, which you can find here and here.
