Donnie Darko - 1st film directed and written by Richard Kelly.  It tells the tale of a boy (Donnie) with an imiginary friend (Frank) who's a giant man sized bunny with a metal face.  Donnie has a problem sleepwalking, and has been seeing visions of a Frank who fills his head with stories of the impending end of the world during one of his sleep walks in errm..28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds.  Indeed it's during this sleepwalk end of the world dream that an airplane engine falls on his house and lands in his room, a major turning point in his life?  Watch the film and see.

This is a BLOODY good film and is the only one i've EVER watched twice.  Can't recommend it highly enough.  It's not for those just wanting to sit down and have it flow over them, it takes a little thought to watch and will probably leave you thinking at the end 'WTF !!', hence why i watched it twice.   :D

To balance that glowing testomony, I thought it was let down badly at the end. The film has plot twists and turns but at the end you're just left scratching your head. It's a masterpiece that didn't quite pull it off in the final scenes. I think the yanks call it closure.

You're supposed to finish watching the film and say "Ah ha   "

but actually end  up saying "Eh   "

agree with similo about the ending but the rest of the film is so cool

Sheepy appears and begins to stroke my head. According to his slurred drunken speech I am "lovely and like a fuzzy felt". Thankfully he soon leaves and passes out somewhere. [/quote]

Omfg !!   Ending spoiler coming up tbh..

All the film he's been discovering how to travel back in time, then his girlfriend gets killed so what does he do?  DUH !!!  He sacrifices his own life by going back in time to the point where the engine falls in his room, ergo he never met his girlfriend, so she can live !!  End of.

Or did i miss something because it seemed quite clear to me.

...............bit extreme that!!  8O ......why didn't he just go back and leave her a note saying "mysterious stranger wishes to meet etc" then she wouldn't have been wherever it was when she died??!! DUH!!

.................after all it's not like he was ever going to have her again was it??

after i finished whatching the film i also ended up thinking "eh...". It wasn't because of the plot or why he did what he did, more along the lines or that was possible the most shit way to tie up the end of the film.

[SPOILERISH]So i did i google search for a film synopsis and it confirmed most of what i thought. It didnn't comment on how the ending was filmed, just mentioned that donnie did the whole undoing thing back to the start of the film. It also pointed out that throughout the film all the good he did doesn't compare to the shit that happens in the end. Which is why he laughs at the end waiting for the inevitable but also the unknown.

Yep FGB,

I still thoroughly enjoyed the film while I was watching it and still thing it was a bold attempt to do something different. However it so tied itself up plot wise, that to unravel it all at the end was near impossible.

Mulholland Drive worked because it didn't try to explain what happened or why. There were many loose ends left loose on purpose. Donnie Darko tried to ( or so it seemed to me) tie up all it's loose ends. However it left more questions that it answered and so as a viewer I was left disappointed with the experience.

I'd still highly recommend it as a film, so people should watch it and  decide for themselves.

but there are 4 or 5 diffrent ways that u can interpret the ending if u look at it in diffrent ways. i was watchin it with 3 others and we all had diffrent interpretations

Necropost  *cough*

With the recent talk of Donnie Darko, I thought i'd ask if anyone had seen the directors cut version, and does it answer any questions?

Maus

Nope, not really. It wasn't nearly as good as the original either.

Sorry, can't remember it well enough to say much more, but I remember being very disappointed.

Seemed clear to me too....

In the film they talk about how god controls time, therefore all time is preditermined, donnie is challenged with his theory on time travel by his teacher,

He says: if you could see your future you could change it.
Donnie says: not if you travel within gods channel.
