Wake Island map - don't 'we' like it then?

I like 'Wake Island' - I have liked it from the start - but I know others have mixed feelings...

ALSO - Am I right in thinking that the AAS mod has a problem with this map?

On a number of occassions - when Wake Island comes round in the server map cycle - the server has frozen and left us stranded with a map that won't start properly (typically this usually happens when a Admin isn't around to kick start the map!)...

BUT - when we do get the map working I like it because there are plenty of chances to play 'hide and seek' and zip across the island in teh little boats and stuff. But that's just IMHO!

I played it on [TG] last night...

It's great fun with loads of people...

but it's just made for bombing runs :(

I've only played it a couple of times and I thought it was fun. I don't think it works with AAS hence the no-playing of it on dMw.

Is it possible to make it AAS'ible? I don't think so. Maybe a zig-zag across the two prongs would work? Need to try it.

Is it possible to make the server cope with a non-AAS map in the midle of the cycle? I don't know.

Maybe one night when there are a few on, and an admin, then we can get it on, play a gong, get it on!
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

Yep...I was on TG couple of nights ago - every time I neutralized a flag I had to run for cover - then come back again after the inevitable bomb run came in!

Prob have to wait until OB is back as he is the AAS expert but yes you are correct in saying that there is currently a conflict between AAS and Wkae Island so we removed it from the map cycle pending an AAS update.

I'll go do some digging see what I can find :)

QuoteWe are running AAS mod in our gaming community and love it. However, whenever we have the new Wake Island map in the map cycle the server will hang on it. Removing AAS from server or removing Wake Island from mapcycle seems to fix prob. has anyone else experienced this and if so have they got a solution? We would prefer to have AAS and Wake Island :)

Great Mod. Well done

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers BB...

LOL - we will just get this fixed in time for the 'Special Forces' expansion maps and then it will start all over again!

DuVeL

I've first played it on a publicserver and hated it. Haven't played it yet on a more normal server though.

QuoteWake and 1.03 in general Posted by santala at 2005-11-10 10:15 AM

I've been meaning to check the mod's compatibility with 1.03 and adding support for Wake for a while now, but unfortunately I haven't had the time to get into it yet. I'm hoping I'll get around to it sooner than later. Thanks for your continued interest and keep an eye on this page. :)

...but our very own Liberator seems to have taken on the mantle of Chief Coder so AAS for Wake is now available.

Sorry I missed out on the fun last night...

I am glad the effort is being put in to give Wake Island a chance. I like this map, mainly because it's a bit of a chance of scenery, but also because it gives you a good oportunity to use the rubber boats tactically to flank the flags by sea.

How did the use of airpower go on this map? Did it turn in to a jet bombing frenzy?

Great medic work by the way Blunt - that was my first win on the PLA side for Wake so I was quite pleased (even if I had a chat or two with our CO about not ordering us off the airfield!).

I like this map, but agree that it is quite one sided to the USMC team, as the bombing runs are devastated against static positions. If you played it as infantry only on AAS I reckon at 6-12 a side it would be a fantastic map, fighting through the jungle pathways!
